Reporting to the Director of Financial & Sustainability Reporting, with daily interaction with the Vice President of Accounting & Finance, the Financial Accountant is responsible for managing and maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and public accounting regulations, and providing financial data, analysis and reports to support strategic decision-making within our organization
Responsibilities:
- Prepare financial statements in compliance with IFRS standards including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements for public disclosures to shareholders, investors and government agencies, and internal management reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
- Conduct internal audits and financial reviews to identify discrepancies, optimize costs, assess risks and improve financial performance.
- Prepare, classify and review financial entries, analyze financial data, monitor trends, reconcile accounts, and conduct financial analysis, investigate and report variances .
- Prepare corporate accounting reports, analyses, and key performance indicators (KPIs) for strategic decision-making for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Liaise with external auditors and manage quarterly reviews and the annual audit process.
- Prepare technical accounting memorandums covering various accounting topics. Strong understanding of accounting principles is necessary.
- Coordinate with various departments for accurate financial postings, establish standardized procedures and overhead management.
- Ensure compliance with all internal financial control processes and requirements, participate in regulatory reporting and support continuous improvements in financial processes.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
- Reconcile accounts and perform monthly close processes to ensure accuracy in financial data and reporting
- Be a key and an active member of the Finance team; work collaboratively, brainstorm issues, complete ad-hoc requests and be flexible in completing any task.
Skills/Qualifications/Education:
- Completion of a post-secondary degree in Accounting or Business Administration. Preference will be given to candidates with a professional accounting CPA designation or enrolled in the CPA program.
- Minimum of 2+ years experience in a similar role, preferably in a public mid-sized manufacturing/technology environment or an accounting firm.
- Ability to adapt to a dynamic, entrepreneurial and fast-paced work environment.
- Ability to work independently with excellent organization skills in assuming responsibility for managing multiple priorities.
- Positive attitude and enthusiasm with a focus on providing useful information to make good business decisions in a supportive environment.
- Must be able to effectively communicate financial information to both financial and non-financial stakeholders
- Ability to analyze business results, identify financial data and clearly summarize key financial insights.
- Accuracy and attention to detail are paramount skills
- Excellent computer skills, including experience in MS Excel and MS Word applications, with a willingness to develop a full working knowledge of the Company’s NetSuite ERP system.
