Thales Australia is a premier provider of systems, products and services in the defence, security and civil markets in Australia and throughout the world.

Australian Munitions, Benalla and Mulwala facilities produce a range of products including propellants, high explosives, small arms ammunition, large calibre ammunition, bombs and pyrotechnics, grenades, fuses and detonators for the defence market, as well as other products for the commercial market.

The Thales Benalla Facility makes various munitions, primarily for the Australian Defence Force. The Ammunition Production section makes Small Arms Ammunition, metal parts for large calibre ammunition and bombs, as well as assembling inert components for other products.

We are looking for an individual who has in depth technical experience in the field of tooling management which is critical to our manufacturing operations.

The Role
 

We are looking for an individual who has in depth technical experience in the field of tooling management to become our next Technical Officer – Tooling with our Benalla team. As our Technical Officer - Tooling you will ensure that production teams have the required tooling needed to meet their production and customer requirements.

Key aspects to the role will include:

  • Work collaboratively with all stakeholders and provide timely communication

  • Providing coordinated and well managed tooling requirements for our production teams

  • Deliver fit for purpose tooling ready for operational requirements

  • Manage tooling preparation, readiness and maintenance for scheduled production operations

  • Work with Technical Officers and Engineering to ensure drawings are accurate and effective

  • Check incoming tooling (new and refurbished) against purchase order and drawing requirements

  • Where required inspect quality of tooling received against drawings

  • Maintain accurate and timely records of tooling registers, service schedules and lifecycle records

  • Provide appropriate, correct and current technical advice and support to production and engineering teams

  • Support audits, inspections and investigations related to tooling compliance

  • Validate tooling performance during setup and production operations as well as mothballing and appropriate storage in readiness for next operation cycles.

  • Identify opportunities for improvement including technology advancements in heat treatments and finishes including to correct any issues associated with tooling errors

  • Deliver against tight timelines and customer requirements

Your Experience

To be considered for this role you will need to demonstrate factors such as, not limited to: 

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of tooling requirements in a fastmoving environment

  • Experience in working in a diverse team and you excel in collaboration with all stakeholders

  • Demonstrate “a can” do professional attitude to get the job done

  • Proven organisational capabilities and an appreciation of being able to prioritise production needs

  • Trade Qualification in Tool Making, Fitting & Turning, Mechanical Engineering or related field would be an advantage or:

  • AQF3/AQF4 Qualification in an Engineering or Technical Stream

  • Strong mechanical and technical aptitude with advanced knowledge of tooling systems

  • Ability to analyse tooling performance data and identify root cause of issues

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

  • Through understanding and experience in all aspects of MS office and computer skills

  • Skilled in technical documentation, compliance reporting and record keeping
    ore progressing to the next stage.
