Position Summary

The Occupational Therapist (OT) delivers therapeutic services that increase students’ access to learning and help them succeed across school routines. This role focuses on improving self-care, fine motor coordination, sensory processing and regulation, environmental access, and functional participation in academic and social settings. The OT collaborates daily with Special Education Teachers, BCBAs, Speech Therapists, and paraprofessionals to ensure strategies are embedded in each student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and across the learning environment.


What You’ll Do

Student Services

  • Conduct initial and ongoing OT assessments using standardized and functional tools

  • Develop IEP goals tailored to student developmental and educational needs

  • Provide direct, consultative, and classroom-embedded OT services

  • Address fine motor skills, sensory regulation, handwriting, ADLs, and task organization

  • Recommend adaptive equipment, assistive technology, and environmental modifications

  • Document progress and maintain timely, compliant records aligned with IDEA and Lilac standards

Collaboration & Interdisciplinary Support

  • Partner closely with teachers, BCBAs, and related service providers to align supports across instructional and behavioral plans

  • Participate in family consultations, IEP meetings, and case conferences

  • Provide training to staff and caregivers on sensory strategies and adaptive classroom practices

  • Support generalization of skills across environments and communication partners

Program & Operations

  • Maintain timely treatment notes and progress reports

  • Promote safe and organized therapy/classroom environments

  • Participate in Safety Care professional development and broader staff training opportunities

  • Support school-wide initiatives and additional responsibilities as needed to help students thrive


What You Bring

Education & Licensure

  • Master’s or Doctorate in Occupational Therapy from an ACOTE-accredited program

  • Current Washington State OT License and NBCOT certification

  • ESA certification or eligibility within 90 days of hire

  • Pediatric and/or school-based experience preferred

Knowledge & Skills

  • Expertise in sensory processing, fine motor development, and environmental adaptations

  • Strong documentation, progress monitoring, and collaboration skills

  • Ability to translate clinical strategies into classroom-ready interventions

  • Effective communication and partnership within interdisciplinary teams

Physical & Operational Requirements

  • Ability to kneel, squat, crawl, sit, stand, and transition between positions for extended periods

  • Ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs and respond quickly to active/aggressive behaviors using approved Safety Care protocols

  • Vision, hearing, and mobility sufficient to safely support students across environments

Other Requirements

  • Criminal background clearance & Livescan fingerprinting

  • Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance

  • Compliance with Lilac Learning Center policies and safety procedures


A Typical Day

A day in this role may include:

  • Observing students during classroom activities

  • Providing individual and small-group therapy

  • Coaching educators on sensory strategies or adaptive tools

  • Writing progress notes and reviewing goals

  • Partnering with interdisciplinary teams to refine supports
