Lab Research Intern - 6 month contract

Are you ready to expand your hands‑on experience and apply your engineering knowledge in real-world research? As a Lab Research Intern at the Weir Advanced Research Centre, you’ll build on your existing lab skills while contributing to projects that make a real impact.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Perform lab testing to explore the physical properties of polymer materials.

  • Apply engineering fundamentals to validate new products and processes.

  • Support technology scouting and product research.

  • Assist in preparing Design of Experiments (DOE) to guide investigations.

This internship is a 6‑month opportunity designed for students completing their studies or recent graduates in mechanical, electronic, mechatronics, or materials engineering. It’s a chance to strengthen practical skills, work alongside experienced researchers, and grow in a dynamic, innovation‑driven environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, Develop, and Test Systems
    Assist in the design, development, and testing of mechanical and mechatronic systems, contributing to innovative engineering solutions.

  • Support Research Activities
    Participate in ongoing engineering research projects through experimentation, simulations, and data analysis to validate concepts and improve processes.

  • Prototype Assembly and Evaluation
    Engage in the assembly of prototypes and conduct performance evaluations to assess functionality and reliability.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    Work closely with electrical and software engineers to integrate multidisciplinary insights into research and development efforts.

  • Documentation and Reporting
    Record experimental procedures and results accurately, prepare technical reports, and present findings to the engineering team.

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Master’s degree (ME/M.Tech) in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Electronics, or Mechatronics.

  • Solid understanding of core engineering principles

  • Practical experience with Design of Experiments (DOE)

  • Basic proficiency in CAD tools

  • Familiarity with computer programming

  • Hands-on experience using engineering instruments highly desirable

  • Knowledge of mechanics of materials and how systems behave under load

  • Ability to perform and apply engineering calculations in practical settings

  • Understanding of automation and experimental programming
