Pay Range is the entire compensation range for the position.
Leads and participates in operating vehicles and equipment to meet the finish construction specification requirements for public works construction and 5727 maintenance.

Essential Functions:
As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, this classification may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. Operates a variety of equipment to meet finish construction specifications in public works construction and maintenance such as roads, parks, drainage ways, and wastewater systems;
Leads and trains laborers, equipment operators, and other personnel in equipment operations and in the successful completion of work;
Operates backhoe to excavate around high-pressure gas lines, electrical conduits, and water mains to access sewer lines;
Operates grader to finish grades and base courses of roadways, checking and setting grade stakes for grading and leveling;
Finish-grades roadways and drainage ways;
Blade-mixes and lays bituminous road mix or asphaltic concrete;
Loads, secures, and transports equipment on transport trailers;
Performs minor equipment repairs and servicing;
Participates in a variety of manual labor tasks;
May perform any of the duties required of the Equipment Operator I.
Minimum Qualifications:
Four years of experience in the operation of heavy equipment/vehicles, which may include street sweepers, water trucks, asphaltic materials distributers, front end loaders, graders/scrapers, bulldozers, backhoes, trenchers, tractors, tractor/semi-trailer combinations and like equipment.
(Completion of a vocational/technical program from an accredited college or technical school in heavy equipment operations may be substituted for six months of the required experience.)
OR:
One years of experience as an Equipment Operator I with Pima County.

Preferred Qualifications: (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies, specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):
Experience in a lead and/or training position, leading and training other personnel in the use of operating equipment within a public works setting.
CDL Class B with air brakes and tanker endorsement.
Experience in operations of various heavy equipment use in roadway maintenance and repairs with the emphasis in road grading and shoulder repair operations.
Experience with following written and verbal instructions.
Selection Procedure:
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.
Supplemental Information:
Licenses and Certificates: Valid driver's license is required at the time of application. Valid AZ driver's license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine the applicant's suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. This position requires a valid Arizona Class D driver’s license at the time of application or prior to completion of initial/promotional probation. A valid Arizona commercial driver's license (CDL), Class A, Class B, or Class C with appropriate endorsements is required. For these positions, failure to maintain the required CDL may be grounds for termination. Positions requiring a CDL are also subject to applicable State of Arizona and federal standards, rules, and regulations on physical requirements including drug and alcohol testing. Failure to obtain/maintain the required licensure shall be grounds for termination.
Special Notice Items: The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County.
Physical/Sensory Requirements: Constantly operates and inspects mechanical equipment. Constantly positions self to use, inspect, clean or repair tools and machinery. Constantly observes details at close range. Frequently required to exchange accurate information. Frequently remains in a stationary position.
Frequently moves tools and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds across the manufacturing floor. Frequently operates a motor vehicle safely and legally, in accordance with applicable state and federal transportation laws. Occasionally moves tools and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds across the manufacturing floor. Occasionally ascends/descends machinery and equipment to repair/service.
Working Conditions: Constantly exposed to loud noise levels. Constantly exposed to moving mechanical parts. Occasionally exposed to mechanical oils, vibration and risk of electrical shock.
