BASIC FUNCTION

The Endpoint Technician supports the deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting of enterprise endpoint systems, including desktops, laptops, printers, and mobile devices. This entry-level role focuses on ensuring device reliability, assisting with security compliance, and providing exceptional technical support to students, faculty, and staff under the guidance of senior team members.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Endpoint Setup & Maintenance

  • Assist with initial device setup, including imaging and basic Windows and Apple OS installation.
  • Perform routine updates and patching to maintain security and performance, including confirmation that scheduled patches have been applied and reporting any failures.
  • Handle basic hardware tasks, such as replacing peripherals and tracking inventory.
  • Configure and troubleshoot printers, scanners, docking stations, and other peripherals.
  • Update asset management systems with device details and tag hardware for tracking purposes.
  • Initiate warranty claims and coordinate repairs with vendors; document repair history.
  • Install approved applications following documented procedures and validate licenses.
  • Ensure devices meet baseline security and compliance standards before deployment, escalating any issues to senior team members.
  • Gain introductory exposure to enterprise endpoint management tools (e.g., Microsoft Intune, Jamf Pro, SCCM) through guided tasks.

User Support

  • Respond promptly to Help Desk tickets for common endpoint issues (software installation, software issues, hardware issues, printer setup, VPN setup and connectivity, etc.).
  • General Help Desk Tasks: Provide part-time support for general help desk tasks, including answering phone calls, responding to emails, and assisting walk-in users with various IT-related issues on an as needed basis
  • Provide clear, scripted guidance to end-users for basic troubleshooting scenarios.
  • Troubleshoot basic network connectivity issues at the device level, ensuring that broader network infrastructure concerns are escalated appropriately.
  • Escalate complex issues to senior administrators while documenting steps taken.
  • Maintain professional communication with users to ensure timely resolution and positive experience.
  • Contribute to knowledge base articles and FAQs for simple, recurring issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Direct supervision is given by the Director of Technical Support Services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree in IT or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in IT support or endpoint management.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Basic knowledge of Windows and Apple environments.
  • Familiarity with device management tools (e.g., Intune, Jamf, SCCM) is a plus.
  • Understanding of basic hardware troubleshooting (laptop and desktop).
  • Familiarity with customer service principles.
  • Understanding of basic networking and security principles.
  • Interest in learning automation scripting (PowerShell, Bash) over time.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt.
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Commitment to supporting a diverse and inclusive community.

Location: VTSU Randolph or CCV Montpelier

Salary: Typically, this position is scheduled for 37.5 hours weekly. The budgeted wage for this position is $27.00 per hour.  

Physical Requirements: Duties performed cause slight fatigue of eyes, fingers, or other faculties as a result of repetitive motion and/or long periods of standing or sitting. Duties require little physical effort in work with light to moderate (up to 25lbs) easy-to-handle materials. Duties will occasionally require the climbing of ladders.

Working Conditions: Job is performed in a general office or comparable working area with many and frequent distractions such as noise and interruptions. Work schedule may vary during high volume periods.
