                                              Pharmacy Technician Manager – Central Pharmacy #1

Primary Goal
To ensure every patient at Waco Family Medicine’s Central Pharmacy #1 receives timely, accurate, and compassionate care through proactive floor management, real-time problem solving, and the effective coordination of all pharmacy technician activities.

Position Summary
The Pharmacy Technician Manager oversees all pharmacy technician operations at Central Pharmacy #1, ensuring that daily workflows deliver an exceptional patient experience, operational efficiency, and full regulatory compliance. This position actively monitors the pharmacy floor, reallocates resources in real time to meet patient demand, and models the professionalism, communication, and service standards expected of the team.

The Manager directly supervises Technicians I–III assigned to Central Pharmacy #1, manages scheduling and daily coverage, conducts performance reviews, and fosters a collaborative, patient-centered team culture. The position requires hands-on leadership—jumping in to assist wherever needed to maintain patient flow and demonstrating how to respond effectively in high-volume or complex situations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead daily pharmacy technician operations at Central Pharmacy #1 to ensure smooth workflow and excellent patient service.
  • Monitor the pharmacy floor throughout the day; identify workflow bottlenecks and reassign staff as needed (e.g., asking a technician to assist at checkout during peak times).
  • Serve as a visible, active presence during operating hours—engaging with staff and patients to uphold service standards.
  • Model professionalism, accuracy, and compassion in all patient interactions; provide immediate coaching and feedback to staff as needed.
  • Manage scheduling and daily coverage to ensure appropriate staffing across all shifts and roles within Central Pharmacy #1.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide ongoing coaching, and create development plans for all pharmacy technicians on site.
  • Ensure Technician III leads fulfill responsibilities for controlled substances, cash handling, inventory, delivery, and specialty workflows.
  • Coordinate cross-training programs and maintain competency checklists to ensure operational flexibility and patient safety.
  • Support compliance with TSBP, DEA, 340B, HIPAA, and WFM standards.
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, and retention initiatives in collaboration with pharmacy leadership.
  • Partner with the Associate Director of Community Pharmacy and pharmacists to identify process improvements that enhance patient satisfaction and staff engagement.

Jump in as needed to assist with dispensing, patient check-out, delivery prep, or other operational duties.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications


Reports To: Associate Director of Community Pharmacy
Supervises: Pharmacy Technicians I–III (Central Pharmacy #1)

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Current Texas Pharmacy Technician Registration.
  • Minimum 5 years of pharmacy technician experience, ideally at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead capacity.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage complex scheduling and performance review processes.
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient service, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Experience with 340B or high-volume community pharmacy operations preferred.
  • College degree preferred but not required.
