40Job Description Summary:
It is the responsibility of the Anesthesia Technologist to assist the Anesthesiologist staff; to clean, organize, and to prepare anesthesia and monitoring equipment; and to maintain collaborative relationships with Anesthesiologists, operating room staff, vendors, and other hospital departments. The position provides technical support to anesthesiologists and surgical staff under the supervision of the assistant nurse manager or designee.Job Requirements, Prerequisites and Essential Functions:
EDUCATION
High school diploma (or GED) required. Requires the completion of a course in medical terminology and the ability to read, write and speak English.
B. EXPERIENCE
Experience in an acute care operating room setting with minimum one year experience as an Anesthesia Technician/Technologist required.
Previous cardiac Anesthesia Technician/Technologist experience preferred.
C. PREREQUISITE SKILLS
Ability to maintain collaborative relationships with operating room management and staff Ability to work effectively and tactfully and to represent MGH appropriately during contacts with the public and sale representatives Ability to work independently and under supervision within hospital and department policies Good verbal and non-verbal and written communication skills Previous Cell Saver experience preferred
V. LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION:
Current BLS-HP American Society of Anesthesia Technologists & Technicians (ASATT) preferred (required for Certified level)

VIII.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepares equipment for use, including but not limited to:
CVP, Arterial Lines
Anesthesia Machines
Swan-Ganz Lines
Monitoring Equipment
Humidifier
Ventilators
Meets anesthesiologist’s and patient needs within parameters of department and hospital policies and procedures Assists with ordering, obtaining and stocking supplies Assists with record keeping Responsible for preparing, cleaning and trouble-shooting of all anesthesia and monitoring equipment Responsible for preventative maintenance and/or repair of all anesthesia and monitoring equipment (as qualified) Responsible for documentation of daily equipment preparation activities Utilizes cost effective practices to assess supply and equipment needs and expenditures within budget Maintains and increases skills and knowledge base through continued education and staff in-services Evaluates contemporary equipment, supply and technique developments as they relate to MGH anesthesia practices Demonstrates competence in unit specific skills
