TITLE: Maintenance Technician – Level B
PAY GRADE: $24-$26/DOE
SCHEDULE: Monday - Thursday 6:00am - 4:30pm

STATUS: Regular, Full-Time
FLSA: Non-Exempt

Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician – Level B performs skilled diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance across a range of mechanical systems. Technicians at this level are expected to troubleshoot independently, support small-scale projects, and contribute to continuous improvement of maintenance procedures. This is a mid-level technician role requiring broad equipment knowledge and sound judgment in the field.

Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor or Senior Lead

Essential Functions

1. Diagnose mechanical failures in motors, drives, conveyor systems, production machinery, and utility equipment using appropriate testing tools and methods.
2. Perform intermediate-level repairs, part replacements, alignments, and calibrations with minimal supervision.
3. Maintain and improve preventive maintenance programs by identifying recurring issues and recommending procedural updates.
4. Coordinate with operators and production teams to schedule maintenance work with minimal disruption.
5. Interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and equipment diagrams to inform repairs and installations.
6. Perform system inspections, identify equipment nearing failure, and initiate corrective actions or work orders.
7. Adhere to all safety regulations, including proper use of Lockout/Tagout and PPE; may serve as LOTO authority on assigned jobs.
8. Complete accurate work documentation, including service records and inventory tracking.

Other Responsibilities

1. Provide technical guidance or informal mentoring to Level A or Apprentice technicians.
2. Assist with installation or modification of machinery and process equipment.
3. Contribute to troubleshooting efforts on cross-functional maintenance teams.
4. Maintain cleanliness and readiness of personal tools and shared shop areas.
5. Perform other duties as required to support department operations.

Education, Experience, and Skills

1. High school diploma or GED required; technical school or certification preferred.
2. Minimum 3–5 years of industrial mechanical maintenance experience.
3. Proficiency in diagnosing issues involving chains, belts, gearboxes, pumps, valves, and pneumatic/hydraulic systems.
4. Ability to safely operate forklifts, manlifts, and powered industrial equipment (with certification).
5. Working knowledge of CMMS or maintenance tracking systems.
6. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to prioritize tasks under pressure.
7. Capable of leading small work crews during projects or shutdowns.
