Skills and Competencies
- 4+ years of product development experience using R and/or Python is required to handle terabyte-scale datasets in both stream and batch processing environments.
- Working experience with at least one low-level language such as C, C++, or Rust is necessary for performance-critical computations and system optimization.
- Proficiency with various data storage and serialization formats (e.g., Apache Arrow, Parquet, JSON) and databases (e.g., SQL, RDS) is essential for efficient data handling.
- Working knowledge of HPC concepts like memory access patterns, vectorization, and distributed computing is required to build efficient analytical algorithms.
- Strong skills in problem decomposition, data structures, and algorithms are critical for designing effective solutions to complex modeling challenges.
- Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies quickly is crucial in a collaborative and fast-evolving technical landscape.
- Basic understanding of artificial intelligence concepts, with curiosity and enthusiasm for learning how AI tools - such as Copilot and ChatGPT - can be used to improve processes and drive efficiency.
Education
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
Responsibilities Develop prototypes and software tools to certify and validate complex catastrophe, climate, and cyber models.
- Develop prototypes required to certify natural catastrophe models and the next generation of climate and cyber models.
- Develop software and REST APIs to be used by internal model developers and external clients to understand and validate our models.
- Design and implement methodologies using Map-reduce, machine learning, and computer vision to analyze spatial model data and identify anomalies.
- Collaborate with domain experts across teams to define and implement new methodologies for complex projects and establish best practices.
- Develop algorithms to analyze large volumes of client and model data while optimizing compute resources.
- Work collaboratively across all model development teams to support and communicate the team’s direction and product lifecycle.
About the team Our Model Certification Products team is responsible for the complete prototyping, tooling, and analytics of our global natural catastrophe models. We develop products, prototypes, and auxiliary tools that lead to successful model releases and provide ongoing support. We perform fast analytics to ensure model functionality, correctness, and behavior, which helps complete model development on time. By joining our team, you will be part of exciting work in model development, state-of-the-art model analytics, resource optimization, and cross-team collaboration.
For US-based roles only: the anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is $139,900.00 - $202,750.00, depending on factors such as experience, education, level, skills, and location. This range is based on a full-time position. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for incentive compensation. Moody’s also offers a competitive benefits package, including not but limited to medical, dental, vision, parental leave, paid time off, a 401(k) plan with employee and company contribution opportunities, life, disability, and accident insurance, a discounted employee stock purchase plan, and tuition reimbursement.
