About the Department

The Folsom Parks & Recreation Department is currently recruiting for a Park Aide (Temporary, Part-Time) positions to join the Municipal Landscape Services Division.

The part-time Park Aide performs a variety of semi to moderately skilled maintenance work and receives immediate supervision from assigned personnel. This employee should be self-motivated, detailed oriented, able to follow direction, have the ability to work independently and observe safe work practices.

Schedule
  • Duration: position is ongoing as long as needed and supported by the budget. 
  • Approximately 15-20 hours per week, within a Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm time frame. 

Pay & Benefits
  • Non-exempt, hourly, part-time.
  • Part-time positions are hourly and not eligible for benefits, and are limited to working 999 hours in a fiscal year (July 1 - June 30). No full-time regular appointment will be made from this class.  

Note: Unfortunately current active CalPERS members are ineligible for employment with part-time positions.

Position Duties

NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level.  Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all the duties listed.


  • Landscape and hardscape maintenance of the Folsom Historic District.

  • Tree/weed/brush removals and use of chipper (as part of a team)

  • Litter pick up

  • Vandalism/graffiti abatement

  • Minor maintenance and repair tasks (i.e. changing a lock, replacing damaged electrical covers, painting a fence, replacing damaged posts and bollards)

  • Landscape maintenance (i.e. pruning a shrub/tree, stake removal, leaf blowing/pick-up)

  • Planting of trees and/or shrubs

  • Minor repairs to irrigation

  • Other related duties as assigned.

 

Park aides will have interaction with the public and in doing so, represent the Department as well as the City.

Minimum Qualifications


NOTE:  The level and scope of the knowledge and abilities listed below are related to job duties as defined under “Examples of Essential Duties.”

Knowledge of:

  • Practices and methods of basic landscaping and maintenance principles.
  • Basic knowledge of irrigation and water collection and diversion techniques.
  • English usage, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Safety practices and principles of maintenance tools and machinery.
  • Customer service principles and practices.
Ability to:
  • Willing to work independently, weekends, and outdoors in ALL weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.).
  • Understand and perform field maintenance procedures.
  • Demonstrate enthusiastic, positive energy. 
  • Communicate well orally and in writing
  • Be organized, self-motivated, prioritize and pace duties and tasks.
  • Follow oral and written directions.
  • Establish and maintain effective, cooperative working relationships with coworkers and the public.

Other Qualifications


Education:

High school graduate or equivalent to the completion of the 12th grade.


Experience:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Landscape or maintenance experience preferred.


License, Certification, Registration Requirements:
Possession of, or ability to obtain and retain, a California Class C driver license by the time of appointment. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.


The successful candidate is made a conditional offer subject to a background check, which requires DOJ fingerprint clearance and a pre-employment physical, including screening for drug and alcohol use. 


Physical Requirements

Work is performed in a typical outdoor environment on a year-round basis. (1) Mobility: frequent performance of heavy manual labor, frequent standing, walking, or driving; frequent climbing, reaching, bending, stooping, crawling, and squatting. (2) Lifting: frequent lifting up to 50 pounds; occasional lifting up to 100 pounds. (3) Vision: constant use of overall vision. (4) Dexterity: frequent grasping, holding, reaching, hand/shoulder/elbow movements. (5) Hearing/Talking: frequent hearing and talking in person. (6) Emotional/Psychological: frequent coworker and public contact; frequent working alone and independent. (7) Environment: frequent exposure to outside elements (sun, wind, rain); loud noise, traffic, fumes, and other environmental substances.
