Position: Private Clinic Traveling Technician (Southern Region)
Job Type: Full-time, Hourly (Non-Exempt)
Reports to: Clinic Supervisor / District Manager
Location: Various locations (travel required)
Summary:
The Private Clinic Traveling Technician plays a vital role in supporting high-quality patient care across our Southern Region, including clinics in Yuba City and Marysville. As a Traveling Technician, you’ll assist optometrists and ophthalmologists by performing essential pre-exam testing, maintaining and troubleshooting diagnostic equipment, and helping ensure every clinic operates smoothly and efficiently. You will be a key member of our patient care team—welcoming patients, guiding them through testing procedures, and helping create a positive, professional experience.
This role offers the unique opportunity to support multiple clinics within the Southern District (and, as needed, the Northern or Central Districts). Clinic Support & Travel
- Travel to assigned private vision clinics within the Southern Region of Yuba City and Marysville, ensuring timely arrival and readiness to support patient care.
- Adapt quickly to different clinic environments and workflow needs to maintain smooth daily operations.
- Anticipate and communicate with the other technicians to ensure proper patient flow
Patient Care & Pre-Testing
- Greet patients in a friendly, professional manner and help create a welcoming clinic experience.
- Obtain and accurately document patient medical histories in the EHR system.
- Perform comprehensive pre-exam testing, including:
- Autorefractions (A/R)
- Confrontational fields
- Stereo and color vision testing
- Lensometer readings
- Visual acuity
- Pupil evaluations
- Motility testing
- Intraocular pressures (IOP)
- Dilation procedures
Diagnostic Equipment Operation
- Set up, operate, and maintain ophthalmic diagnostic equipment such as autorefractors, visual field analyzers, OCT, fundus cameras, and slit-lamp imaging devices.
- Ensure accurate test results and communicate any equipment concerns promptly.
Technical Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, calibration, and minor repairs of diagnostic and clinic equipment.
- Identify and resolve basic technical issues to minimize downtime and maintain clinic efficiency.
Clinical Support & Assistance
- Assist optometrists and ophthalmologists during minor in-office procedures.
- Clean, sterilize, and autoclave instruments according to safety standards.
- Communicate effectively with fellow technicians to support patient flow and reduce wait times.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate records of patient testing, equipment maintenance, and services provided.
- Follow all clinic protocols, safety procedures, and HIPAA guidelines to protect patient safety and confidentiality.
Inventory & Administrative Tasks
- Monitor inventory levels for medical and back-office supplies and report low stock or equipment needs to Lead Technician.
- Complete opening and closing procedures in each clinic as assigned.
- Submit prescription refill requests and pre-authorization documentation when needed.
Training & Collaboration
- Assist in training new staff on diagnostic equipment, testing procedures, and clinic workflows.
- Support clinic teams across multiple locations, promoting a positive, collaborative, and professional environment.
Other Duties
- Refer clinical questions from patients to the doctor.
- Assist at satellite or partner clinics as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support clinic operations and patient care.
Requirements

- Strong knowledge of clinical testing equipment, diagnostic tools, and proper testing procedures.

Education and Training:
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Willing and able to travel 1–3 times per week to various clinic locations.
- Reliable transportation is required.
- Must possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license and active auto insurance.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while demonstrating flexibility, initiative, and strong teamwork.
- Previous experience in a medical office or healthcare setting required.
Physical Requirements/Typical Working Conditions - Environment: Primarily a temperature-controlled facility.
- Work may require prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching.
- Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate clinical testing equipment, a keyboard, mouse, and standard office equipment.
- Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to communicate in person, by phone, or over video.
- Requires occasional lifting of papers or boxes up to 30 pounds.
- Position requires travel by car
Essential Physical Tasks:
- Sight – sufficient to read physical documents, and images on a computer monitor
- Smell – sufficient to discern smoke/something burning, and other odors
- Hear – sufficient to hold face to face/telephone/video call conversations, and to discern other ambient noises
- Touch – sufficient to operate keyboard, mouse, other standard office equipment, and writing implements
- Physical ability/strength – sufficient to lift, twist, turn, reach, climb, kneel, squat, sit, walk, stand, bend as needed throughout a standard shift
