Title: Assistant/Associate Professor of Education – Generalist
Job Type: Tenure-Track
Compensation: $59,222 - $67,027 depending on rank; 9-month contract paid over 12 months, benefits eligible

Location: Saint Martin’s University, Lacey, Washington
The Education Department at Saint Martin’s University is seeking a full time, tenure-track assistant/associate professor of education to teach general education courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The ideal candidate will have a background in elementary education and experience with teacher development/teacher education. Preferred areas of expertise include special education, STEM education, K-12 administration, or Catholic education. Candidates with expertise in different areas are also encouraged to apply.
Specific duties include:
- Teaching general education courses in both undergraduate and graduate teacher certification programs. Specific courses and loads will vary based on the applicant’s background and departmental needs. A typical university teaching load is 4 classes per semester, though this may vary given other assigned responsibilities.
- Participating in departmental activities and leadership.
- Engaging in scholarly activity and research.
- Serving the campus community through committee assignments and shared governance (after the first year).
- Serving as the Director of Field Experiences (this role is negotiable)
Minimum Qualifications Include:
- At least three years of successful teaching in a public or private K-12 context.
- A master’s degree (M.Ed. or MIT) and additional graduate work toward a terminal doctoral degree. Educational doctorate (PhD or EdD) preferred.
- Demonstrated and documented commitment to equitable and effective student-centered teaching practices.
Preferred Qualifications Include:
- A terminal degree in education (PhD or EdD) or closely related field at the time of appointment. Applicants who are ABD may be considered, though they would be hired at the rank of non-tenure-track instructor until such time as they had completed a relevant doctoral degree. Applicants with a doctorate and experience at the assistant professor level may be considered for hire at the associate professor level.
- Knowledge of and experience with pre-service teacher preparation, particularly in Washington State.
- Evidence of scholarly production and capability.
- Experience working successfully in culturally and linguistically diverse school settings.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
