Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Telemetry (Travel)
Location: Asheville, NC
Job Type: Travel Contract
Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: 3×12 Days
Pay: $2,322/week
Completion Bonus: $2,500 per contract (up to $7,500 after three contracts)
Position Overview
ATC Healthcare is seeking a skilled Progressive Care/Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN) for a travel assignment in Asheville, North Carolina. This role is based within a mixed-acuity inpatient overflow unit caring for both medical-surgical and step-down level patients. The ideal RN is confident with telemetry interpretation, demonstrates strong PCU-level clinical judgment, and thrives in a fast-paced environment with frequent patient turnover.
The unit cares for short-stay patients (<24 hours LOS), step-down patients, and telemetry-monitored patients who require close observation and timely interventions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care to medical-surgical and step-down/PCU-level patients.
- Monitor, interpret, and respond to telemetry rhythms; all patients are hardwired to bedside monitors.
- Perform detailed assessments, administer medications, and complete accurate EMR documentation.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans.
- Support rapid patient turnover and short-stay workflow.
- Maintain patient safety, adherence to infection control standards, and compliance with hospital policies.
- Float within scope to other units across the hospital when needed.
- Participate in weekend rotation (every other weekend).
Qualifications
- Active North Carolina or Compact RN license (required).
- Telemetry competency (required).
- Progressive Care (PCU/Step-down) experience (required).
- Certifications (AHA required):
- BLS
- ACLS
- Strong communication, teamwork, and critical-thinking skills.
- Ability to manage a 1:5–1:6 patient ratio, depending on level of care.
- Previous travel experience preferred but not required.
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination and recent tuberculosis test required.
