About the opportunity

The Safety and Wellbeing Coordinator (Residential Life) supports and coordinates a suite of Residential Life programs that provide key activities throughout the year to remind residential students of the need to maintain a balanced approach to their studies through the provision of a range of evidence-based tailored programs and services. The focus of the programs is awareness raising, prevention, early intervention and response related to academic, social, financial, health, mental health, cultural, educational, and other factors which can impact students’ personal safety and wellbeing.

This position has responsibility for the coordination and day-to-day response to critical incidents for students in university accommodation settings, identifying and responding to students ‘at risk’. The Safety and Wellbeing Coordinator (Residential Life) will liaise with student accommodation providers and relevant teams in the University to oversee quality assurance and compliance.

This position may be required to be available ‘on-call’ for after-hours support.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • coordinate the daily operations of pastoral care, screening, assessment, and escalation of responses to ‘at risk’ students in University-operated accommodation

  • in collaboration with the Manager, Wellbeing Services, coordinate the development, promotion and delivery of events and Residential Life (academic, social, financial, health, mental health, cultural, educational) programs in student accommodation settings

  • in partnership with other Student Life teams, support the implementation of co-designed student safety, academic progression and wellbeing literacy programs and responses for at risk groups, including student accommodation settings

  • coordinate the delivery of service improvements in response to student/resident feedback, surveys, current research, and external reviews

  • identify, escalate, and report on potential risks. Ensure the Wellbeing Officers (Residential Life) are following agreed protocols for risk escalation, including the maintenance of records

  • use data, trends, and themes to identify priorities and additional focus areas for Residential life safety and wellbeing programs

  • partner with relevant PVC (Student Life) staff or other key stakeholders to achieve program development goals and implement the collaborative delivery of individual or group wellbeing-related campaigns, workshops, or other initiatives.

About you

  • relevant degree in welfare, safety, social work, counselling, education, or other social/health sciences relevant degree in welfare, safety, social work, counselling, education, or other social/health sciences discipline, with relevant work experience; or an equivalent alternate combination of relevant knowledge, training and/or experience

  • accreditation / registration with a relevant health, safety, or wellbeing professional association / organisation, or legislative body

  • Working With Children Check required

  • demonstrated experience in leading and coordinating a team in the provision of support and/or care services

  • ability to facilitate engagement with internal and external stakeholders and collaborate on the development and delivery of programs

  • willingness and ability to travel to university’s satellite campuses in NSW (Full unrestricted NSW Driver license)

  • demonstrated understanding of the range of issues impacting on student wellbeing, academic participation, and safety within the higher education sector

  • proficiency in a second language other than English desirable

  • experience in the coordinating the development, promotion and delivery of health and wellbeing literacy programs, harm minimisation, and safety initiatives at scale.
