Course Number and Title: ECE472H1 S – Engineering Economic Analysis & Entrepreneurship
Course Description: The economic evaluation and justification of engineering projects and investment proposals are discussed. Cost concepts; financial and cost accounting; depreciation; the time value of money and compound interest; inflation; capital budgeting; equity, bond and loan financing; income tax and after-tax cash flow in engineering project proposals; measures of economic merit in the public sector; sensitivity and risk analysis. Applications: evaluations of competing engineering project alternatives; replacement analysis; economic life of assets; lease versus buy decisions; break-even and sensitivity analysis. Entrepreneurship and the Canadian business environment will be discussed.

Sessional dates of appointment: January 1, 2026 - April 30, 2026
Salary: $12,919.97
Qualifications: Knowledge in the subject matter. Preferred consideration will be given to applicants who have taught the course before (or course equivalent), or have teaching experience in the subject matter.
Description of duties: All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, admin. and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours; supervising any TAs assigned to course, if applicable.
