A base annualised salary of $67,409 pa with competency-based increments up to $78,194 pa + 12% employer contribution to superannuation

EMPLOYMENT TYPE:

THE POSITION:
Monitor, operate, maintain and optimise AlburyCity’s water and wastewater treatment plants, including pumping stations and service reservoirs in an effective and efficient manner. The position will ensure the treatment quality conforms to all relevant regulatory and compliance standards.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate and maintain water and wastewater treatment facilities as directed, including taking corrective action in response to test results and operating issues.
  • Perform routine plant inspection and undertake maintenance activities as required to maintain operating reliability of the treatment facilities.
  • Perform routine maintenance activities associated with the facilities’ grounds and buildings.
  • Use, handle and store chemicals in accordance with relevant WH&S, and AlburyCity requirements and ensure that chemical dosing is undertaken in an efficient and effective manner to meet plant processes and effluent quality requirements.
  • Assist with the construction and commissioning on new assets.
  • Undertake sample collection, testing and analysis to monitor and manage treatment plant operations.
  • Record and update plant operational and performance data and maintain daily logs of plant operations, relevant test results, scheduled maintenance and plant performance records.
  • Identify faults the operational performance of the plants. In conjunction with the Supervisor make any necessary changes to the plants processes to ensure continual operational performance.
  • Use SCADA systems to monitor and control treatment processes.
  • Ensure that the treatment facilities are operated to comply with all regulatory requirements.
  • Undertake continual professional development and training to ensure formal qualifications and skills allow for the safe operation of Council’s water and wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Perform other tasks or duties as directed by the Supervisor which are within the limits of the employee’s skill, competence and training.
  • Observe requirements of the WHS Legislation, relevant to the job and adhere to AlburyCity Policies and Procedures regarding WHS.
  • Observe appropriate AlburyCity Policies and Procedures regarding day to day operations including Equal Employment Opportunity policies, AlburyCity’s Dress Code and Standards Policy and AlburyCity’s Code of Conduct.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS: 

  • Based on 38-hour week, working 38 hours across a 7-day spread, with actual days and times being worked in accordance with facilities rosters with an RDO in accordance with AlburyCity’s RDO guidelines. Hours worked on weekends will attract the appropriate loadings.
  • Payment for all hours worked and periods of leave will be as per the 7 day/week facilities roster.
  • This position will be required to be on call outside normal working hours on a facility roster basis. This will attract the appropriate allowance.
  • This position may involve work outside normal working hours and. Additional hours over the standard 38 hours will attract a time in lieu arrangement or payment of overtime rates as agreed in advance with your supervisor.
  • This position requires you to wear a compulsory uniform as per AlburyCity’s Our People Dress Code Standards. Our People are required to present a smart and professional image to the public at all times including when in public and when working remotely.
  • This position will be provided with vaccination against the following infectious diseases:
    • Hepatitis A
    • Hepatitis B
  • The successful incumbent of this role will be expected to achieve dual qualifications in Water and Wastewater Treatment and undertake continual professional development and training to ensure formal qualifications and skillsa llow for the safe operation of Council’s water and wastewater treatment facilities.
  • This position involves working in a predominantly outdoor environment where a varying range of temperatures, weather conditions and walking surfaces may be experienced. The position requires a moderate level of aerobic and physical fitness to undertake regular physical activities such as walking, lifting, pulling, pushing along with the capacity to maintain normal manual handling tasks across the work day - depending on the nature of the tasks undertaken. The use of relevant work method statements and appropriate WHS standards are an integral part of the role. A full functional and medical assessment is required for this position. 
  • This position is subject to alcohol and other drug testing 
  • This position is located at the AlburyCity Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants with occasional visits to external sites/depots, and AlburyCity Administration Building as required.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA: 

  • Certificate III in Water Industry Operations or relevant trade qualification or equivalent relevant experience
  • Class C (standard) Driver's Licence (compulsory to have & maintain)

DESIRABLE CRITERIA: 

  • Dual qualifications in water and wastewater or a willingness to obtain
  • General Construction Industry White Card
  • Confined Spaces Certificate
  • NSW Accredited Fluoridation of Public Water Supplies Certificate
  • Forklift License

EXPERIENCE: 

  • Relevant experience in the water and wastewater treatment industry
  • Experience in the maintenance of mechanical equipment within the industry
  • Experience in the use of treatment chemicals. 

SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: 

  • A sound understanding and level of competence in the following knowledge areas in order to solve day to day problems:
    • Water and Wastewater Treatment
    • Water and Wastewater testing including the use of standard laboratory equipment, tests, methods, procedures and protocols
    • Water and Wastewater quality including an understanding of regulatory requirements
    • Accurate record keeping including daily logs and test results on computer data bases
    • Knowledge of pumping valving systems; mechanical, electrical and process control systems; and telemetry systems
    • Use of compressed air equipment
    • Use of computers, particularly the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet program and data base entry
    • Chemical dosing systems
    • Use of tools and motorised equipment
