Job Summary

PLEASE NOTE: This is a 10 month, 195 day position. Calendar will be provided upon hiring. ACOE’s Opportunity Academy serves students ages 16 and over who have previously separated from school or have been unsuccessful in school, desire a high school diploma, and will benefit from support with employment readiness and obtaining employment. Opportunity Academy utilizes independent studies with blended learning models; incorporating computer-based curriculum, small group instruction, independent and classroom-based study options.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Experience: Prior experience working with high risk students is desirable. CPR/First Aid Training and Conflict Resolution – willing to obtain if selected. Requirements / Qualifications

THE POSITION: The job of Paraeducator, AOA is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program in a high-risk setting with specific responsibility for assisting teachers with instruction, supervision and tutoring of students; monitoring students; providing secretarial support related to the community school program; and serving and clean-up of meals. The Paraeducator, AOA may work in a school setting where interaction with expelled or Probation-referred high school students, foster youth and/or infants and toddlers is required. This job reports to the Assigned Administrator LOCATION: 1017 Clay Street, Oakland, CA 94607 TYPICAL DUTIES: May proctor, administer, and assist in administering assigned testing (e.g. MAP, SBAC, ELPAC, CELDT, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring proper protocols are followed and maximizing student opportunities for success. Assists students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching academic goals and grade level standards. Maintains manual and electronic documents, files and records (e.g. meal counts, attendance, reports, etc.) for the purpose of providing written reference, and/or meeting mandated requirements.
