Job Description 

Summary/objective

The Associate Provost assists the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs with the administration of Randolph College’s academic programs, policies, and procedures; and fulfills the duties of the Provost in their absence. In addition, the Associate Provost is expected to provide leadership specifically in the areas of faculty professional development, general education assessment, and student success and advising.

  • Assist the Provost with administration of academic policies and procedures as needed
  • Fulfill the duties of the Provost in their absence
  • Assist with the review of existing academic policies and development of new policies
  • Represent the Office of the Provost on certain college committees (Admissions Committee, Board of Review, International and Off-Campus Programs Committee, Teacher Education Advisory Committee)
  • Represent the Office of the Provost on the student-led Judiciary Committee and act as consultant as needed

 

       Curricular Administration and Assessment

  • Coordinate logistics of online undergraduate classes
  • Coordinate assessment of general education program

 

 

 

       Faculty Professional Development

  • Create and implement faculty professional development programs (new faculty orientation, faculty mentoring, adjunct onboarding, trainings)
  • Work with new Teaching and Learning Center to support excellence in teaching
  • Coordinate faculty awards

 

Student Success and Advising

  • Assist the Director of Student Success and Coordinator of Access Services with support for academically at-risk students, including responses and referrals regarding academic concerns to student, parents, and other constituents
  • Advise underperforming students and track their academic progress
  • Identify and inform students when placed on probation or declared academically ineligible to return to the institution

Work environment

Position typically works in an office environment. Requires standing/walking/sitting for extended periods of time 

 

Physical demands

Requires standing/walking/sitting for extended periods of time.  May occasionally lift 10/15 lbs.

 

 Travel required

Some travel required as necessary to represent the College to external constituencies and for ongoing professional development

 

Required education, experience, and competencies

  • Graduate degree from an accredited institution
  • College-level teaching experience
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Ability to develop and administer complex, diverse projects
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively as a member of a leadership team
  • A commitment to inclusiveness and shared governance
  • Administrative experience in higher education

Preferred education, experience, and competencies

  • Doctoral or terminal degree from an accredited institution
  • 3-5 years of full-time college-level teaching experience
  • Relevant leadership experience (e.g., department chair, associate dean, division head, etc.)
  • College level student advising experience
  • Knowledge of general academic policies and faculty issues
  • Knowledge of best practices in faculty professional development
  • Knowledge of student achievement and curricular assessment methods
  • Knowledge of SACSCOC accreditation procedures and academic standards
