GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Develops, implements, and performs medical coding education and training. Serves as the documentation and coding liaison to Health Care Providers.
Job Duties:ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides advice and guidance regarding coding, documentation, and other third-party payer guidelines.
- Researches and stays up to date on coding compliance and guidelines.
- Ensures sustained understanding of federal and state coding compliance and documentation requirements.
- Advises on new CPT and ICD10 codes for proper use, billing requirements, and reimbursements.
- Develops and executes comprehensive curriculums based on audit results, noted trends, and coding changes.
LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Performs work under minimal supervision.
- Handles complex issues and problems, and refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff.
- Possesses comprehensive knowledge of subject matter.
- Provides leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least three (3) years of experience in a related field.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit. The employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) Certification
- Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA)
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
