 This is a full-time faculty position, renewable annually, beginning at the rank of Instructor, but with opportunities for promotion.

Purpose: The Instructor of English is a full-time position in the Department of Humanities with possibility of advancement to Lecturer and Professor of the Practice. Core responsibilities include teaching twelve credit hours of English writing courses per semester. All faculty members at Holy Cross are expected to share the responsibility of enhancing the Catholic learning experience for all students.

 Essential Job Duties:

  • All administrators, faculty, and staff are called to assist students in their formation to be Christ-like students and thus must embrace and advance the Holy Cross mission of the College in all professional activities.
  • Teach a variety of writing/rhetoric/composition courses in the English program
  • Participate in the continuing implementation of a college-wide writing program.
  • Contribute to the ongoing curricular improvement of the English program, including its assessment and re-accreditation.
  • Participate in the life of the College by serving on administrative committees and attending important events, such as Welcome Weekend, Faculty-Staff Convocation, Constitution Day, Honors Convocation, Baccalaureate Mass, and Commencement.
  • Other responsibilities as may be assigned to meet the needs of the Department and College.

 Minimum Education, Skills, and Ability:

  • M.A. or Ph.D. in English or related field is required.  Ideally, the candidate will have graduate training in writing/rhetoric/composition.
  • Previous college teaching experience preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population.
  • Positive work experience in a Catholic college environment preferred.
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to the Holy Cross College mission.
