Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) in this role is a specialized perioperative nurse, responsible for providing expert care before, during, and after surgical procedures. After completing additional education and training, this nurse serves as the key coordinator of all activities in the operating room — including the management of personnel, equipment, supplies, and the surgical environment.
The RN ensures effective communication among all members of the surgical team in sterile attire and serves as a patient advocate, educator, research consumer, and professional role model. Responsibilities may also include monitoring patients during local procedures, back injections, and throughout the recovery phase.

Essential Duties:
- Interprets clinical and diagnostic data, recognize the abnormal, and reports to MD/Anesthesia/ODS, or other OR staff members.
- Verifies completeness of chart, assesses needs of the patient.
- Demonstrates knowledge of surgical procedures by initiating nursing care according to the needs of patients, coordinate supplies, knowledge of usage of various equipment. Maintains a safe, calm, and clean atmosphere.
- Documents all necessary information, including sponge and needle counts, I.V. fluids, medications, blood loss, and implants.
- Attends in-services on safety, BLS, ACLS, PALS, required education programs and staff meetings.
- Rotates “on-call” schedule as assigned by OR Manager.
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned or delegated.
Other Responsibilities:
- Complies with local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
Requirements
License Requirements:
- Graduate from an accredited Nursing Program.
- Must have a current professional license.
- Maintains current BLS and ACLS.
