About the Department

The Aquatics Coordinator is a full-time Civil Service position in the Metro Parks and Recreation department. The primary duties of this position consist of performing the professional and supervisory duties involved in planning, overseeing, and/or coordinating aquatic programming. This position performs additional duties as required. 

This position is frequently required to work a flexible work schedule including evenings and weekends.


Metro’s Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of facilities and programs throughout Davidson County. Currently, the department oversees nearly 16,000 acres of open space, including 184 parks and 107 miles of greenway. Metro Parks offers after school programs for children, activities for seniors (55+), cultural arts classes, dog parks, fitness classes, nature programs, sports leagues, ice hockey, art galleries, and much more.  It is the mission of Metro Parks and Recreation to sustainably and equitably provide everyone in Davidson County with an inviting network of parks and greenways that offer health, wellness and quality of life through recreation, conservation and community. Position Duties

  • Maintain proper chemical balance and maintenance in pool area daily. 
  • Keep daily records of chemicals.
  • Perform preventative maintenance measures, facility inspections and reports safety hazards to appropriate personnel.
  • Plan and implement aquatics programs.
  • Teach swim lessons and water exercise programs.
  • Keep certifications and licenses current.
  • Maintain awareness of current guidelines by American Red Cross and Metro Health Dept. 
  • Train staff on TOSHA Regulations for safety measures
  • Be able to carry out EAP in a pool area and site emergency situations. 
  • Supervise, schedule, and assign duties to lifeguards.
  • Complete evaluations for employees.
  • Schedule, coordinate and instruct classes in the area of aquatics.
  • Support program coordinator and facility manager. 
  • Train employees in all areas of aquatics.
  • Help with planning and teaching in-service training.
  • Work with lifeguards to schedule aquatic programs in facility. 
  • Perform administrative duties. 
  • Plan and teach activities with other groups outside of the community center.
  • Maintain good working relationships with employees and positive relations with the public.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's Degree in Health, Physical Education, Recreation, or related field from an accredited college or university, and two (2) years experience teaching swimming or first-aid, and completion of the following American Red Cross certifications.  Supervisory experience is required.

**No substitution will be made for supervisory experience**

LICENSES REQUIRED:

  • Valid Driver License

  • The American Red Cross Lifeguard Training - CPR for the Professional Rescuer. (Metro Parks will consider certifications earned from other nationally recognized organizations.)

  • Must obtain the Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) or the Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification within the first six (6) months of employment.

  • Must obtain the ARC Lifeguard Instructor Training Certification within the first twelve (12) months of employment.

 

**This position is subject to pre-employment & random drug/BAT testing**

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.

Other Qualifications

  • Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification
  • Experience leading aquatic programs and facilitating classes related to aquatics
  • Experience overseeing the development and implementation of a variety of aquatic programs
  • Experience implementing safety rules and regulations related to a variety of aquatic programs
