Other Conditions: Part-time, for placement in lecturer candidate pool, non-tenurial, contingent on availability of funds and actual staffing requirements. Day, evening, or Saturday offerings, on- and off-campus.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach assigned courses, providing instruction and guidance to help students meet learning objectives.
- Prepare course syllabi and reports related to teaching and student progress.
- Maintain office hours of at least one hour per week for each course taught.
- Collaborate with other instructors and the division chairperson to integrate teaching efforts within the discipline.
- Participate in student and peer evaluations and complete self-assessments to maintain teaching effectiveness.
- Be available to teach a variety of instructional assignments, including day, evening, early morning, weekend, outreach (such as Early College), and distance education classes.
- Adhere to and demonstrate a strong commitment to community college principles and philosophy.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Physics: Master’s degree in Physics.
All degrees must be earned from an accredited institution. If applicants are not available, those not meeting minimum qualifications may be considered on an exception basis.
Desirable Qualifications
- Successful teaching experience at a college level.
- Successful experience teaching distance education courses.
- Demonstrated ability to select and implement varied instructional and assessment methods to effectively engage all community college students and address their individual needs and differences.
- Prior experience teaching courses related to the discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, peers, and administrators.
- Familiarity with competency-based instruction and behavioral objectives.
- Prior experience working with students from multicultural, multiethnic, social, and economic backgrounds, with an understanding of the unique population of Hawai?i.
- A willingness and ability to adapt to new technology platforms to support instruction and student success.
