Position Summary:

Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County is seeking a skilled and motivated Carpenter with strong construction knowledge, leadership ability, and a heart for service. The Carpenter plays a key role in the successful completion of new home construction and warranty repair tasks. This individual will lead volunteers and partner families on job sites while ensuring that construction standards are met and projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.



  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead construction activities on assigned projects, including framing, finishing, siding, roofing, and other carpentry tasks—or coordinate with subcontractors where appropriate.
  • Supervise and train construction staff to work effectively with volunteers and partner families, ensuring a positive and educational experience.
  • Collaborate with Construction Supervisors to develop daily and weekly work plans, and ensure materials and tools are available working with the Warehouse Manager to have materials ordered and delivered on time.
  • Ensure      full compliance with building codes, OSHA standards, Habitat quality  standards, and all applicable regulations.
  • Work  with inspectors, vendors, and subcontractors as needed; assist with scheduling inspections.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming work environment, modeling proper tool use, job site safety, and professionalism.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, subcontractors, and partner families to resolve issues and ensure steady project progress.
  • Track and report progress, material usage, and tool need to the Construction Supervisor.
  • Support  project management by reviewing blueprints, verifying measurements, and identifying areas needing adjustment or redesign.
  • Assist in coordinating subcontractors and project timelines as needed. General Contractor experience or licensure is a strong plus.



Requirements

  

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience in residential construction, carpentry, or general contracting.
  • Construction knowledge is a must. Ability to read and follow blueprints, construction drawings, and build according to code.
  • Strong understanding of local and state building codes, safety regulations, and construction best practices.
  • Proven ability to lead, train, and work alongside unskilled volunteers.
  • Experience  working with diverse individuals and a strong commitment to Habitat’s mission.
  • Excellent  communication, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to solve problems on-site and adapt to changing conditions.
  • Must be able to lift 50+ lbs and perform physical labor outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean 3-year driving record required to operate Habitat vehicles.
  • General Contractor license or relevant coursework is highly desirable.
