- Assist in department activities and daily operational issues surrounding public affairs, all department audits, weekly projects, and department controls.
- Monitor, analyze, and report on daily operational issues and associated impacts, including weather-related and special events.
- Facilitate collaboration between Engineering and corporate stakeholders to align goals, promote transparency, and lead public outreach efforts supporting Engineering projects and LIRR-wide initiatives.
- Assist in communicating and coordinating all Engineering Department activities with third parties, including regulators, vendors, consultants, and auditors.
- Support the Engineering Department budget and headcount planning, development, and justifications.
- Select, develop, and motivate personnel within the department. Provide career development for subordinates. Provide prompt and effective coaching and counseling. Responsible for discipline/termination of employees when necessary. Review direct reports and the approval process of performance appraisals.
- Promote safe work practices and provide safe working conditions. Create a professional environment that respects individual differences and enables all employees to develop and contribute to their full potential.
- Perform other assignments as requested by Senior Management.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business, or a related field. An additional four years of experience may be considered in lieu of the degree.
- Must possess five years of progressively responsible management experience.
- Extensive understanding of labor union environments, collective bargaining principles, and workforce management practices, particularly as they relate to engineering and operations functions.
- Working knowledge of union rules and practices with experience managing or supporting within a complex unionized environment.
- Project management skills with working knowledge of project scheduling and estimates.
- Experience in understanding departmental budgets, headcount, and production goals as they relate to each other.
- Proficient computer skills with working knowledge of various Windows applications.
- Strong business administrative skills to provide written reports and spreadsheet manipulations.
- Must possess strong human relations, communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and analytical decision-making skills.
- Must demonstrate a high level of imitative, professional integrity, and demeanor.
