Regional School District No. 7 provides educational services for students in grades 7 through 12, primarily from its four feeder towns: Barkhamsted, Colebrook, Norfolk, and New Hartford. Position Overview:
The Supervisor of Special Education will lead and coordinate special education programming at Northwestern Regional #7 (NWR7) under the direction of the Executive Director of Shared Services. This role collaborates with Shared Services and NWR7 school staff to optimize operational efficiency in the implementation of special education services at NWR7 high school and middle school. This role ensures compliance with state and federal regulations, supports instructional leadership, and fosters collaboration among staff, families, and service providers.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee delivery of specialized instruction and related services
Supervise and evaluate special education teachers and paraprofessionals
Coordinate all PPT meetings and ensure compliance with timelines
Collaborate with principals, counselors, and mental health staff
Serve as department head for special education and related services
Works closely with the mental health supervisor to support the delivery of services to students with disabilities
Support of ongoing district improvement efforts as part of the instructional leadership team

Qualifications/Skills, Abilities of Ideal Candidate:

Advanced degree in special education or related field
Proven administrative experience and outstanding leadership skills
Proven track record of successful experience as an administrator
Proven ability to manage school staff
Strong background in special education service delivery
Expertise in the PPT process and IEP development
Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum standards/state framework, data analysis, areas of progress monitoring, dispute resolution, educator evaluation, and support plans
Ability to maintain relationships with private and public agencies
Ability to maintain positive relationships with parents and families of special education students
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with administrators, parents, students, and school staff
Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and written skills
Demonstrates thorough knowledge of current federal and state special education regulations, ensuring all guidelines are consistently reviewed and up to date

Certification Requirements

Connecticut Certification in Intermediate Administration/Supervision
Connecticut Certification in Special Education or Related Service Provider

Terms of Employment

Ten-month work year (201 days)
Salary and benefits per NWR7 administrator’s contract
