Annaul Wage Range: $84,000 - $151,000
The materials manager is responsible for overseeing the operations of the materials management department related to purchasing, receiving, storage, inventory control, forms management, and printing. This person ensures efficient and cost-effective acquisition, utilization, distribution and maintenance of equipment and supplies used throughout the institution.
Responsibilities:- Purchase & Procurement – managing purchase orders, expediting deliveries, and sourcing supplies from various vendors
- Inventory Management – maintain optimal inventory levels, conducting cycle counts, and minimizing waste
- Supply Chain Management – Ensure timely and efficient delivery of supplies to all Good Shepherd Health Care System departments.
- Cost Control – Analyzing costs, negotiating contracts, and identifying opportunities to reduce supply expenses.
- Policy & Procedure Development – Creating and implementing policies related to procurement, inventory control, and material handling.
- Staff Management – Supervising and training material management staff, including assigning tasks to materials staff.
- Quality Assurance – Ensure that all supplies and equipment meet required quality standards.
- Emergency Preparedness – Maintaining emergency supply sources and coordinating responses to critical needs.
- The employee supports the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.
- Participates in required education for DNV programs as applicable to position. (reference program education curriculum).

Education

Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Business Administration or closely related field.
Licenses/ certifications/ registrations

Preferred: Certified Purchasing Manager or Certified Professional of Inventory Management.
Experience
Required: 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in acute care hospital material management that included purchasing, contracting, negotiating, inventory control, and system management, as well as at least three years of supervisory experience.

The position also involves occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling when accessing equipment. Walking and standing are typically continuous throughout the shift. The role requires the ability to lift to 50 pounds independently and involves frequent pushing, pulling, carrying, or repositioning of objects or patients weighing up to 25 pounds. There may also be occasional lifting or transferring of objects weighing over 100 pounds, with the expectation that appropriate lifting techniques, mechanical aids, or team assistance will be used to ensure safety. Working Conditions:
This position is performed primarily in an indoor healthcare environment, such as a hospital, clinic, or long-term care facility. While the work setting is protected from outdoor weather conditions, it may be subject to variable indoor temperatures. The role involves frequent exposure to infectious and contagious diseases, hazardous materials, and medical equipment, with the expectation that all staff follow appropriate safety protocols and utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
The health care environment can be fast-paced and unpredictable, requiring the ability to respond quickly to changing circumstances, including high-pressure or emergency situations. The work setting also involves multiple simultaneous demands and varying levels of noise due to medical equipment, staff activity, and patient needs.
