POSITION SUMMARY:
Assumes and carries out clinical leadership of Psychiatry of CHN as directed by the Chief Medical Officer. To act as a psychiatric consultant on clinical issues in all areas of CHN including primary care and care management. Seventy (70) percent of the Director of Psychiatry’s time is spent conducting Psychiatric Evaluations and management of patients. Thirty (30) percent of the Clinical Director’s is spent performing administrative tasks, which include but are not limited to, providing consultations and education to clinical staff, planning and coordination of program needs and quality oversight, and serving as an administrative liaison with the Vice President of Behavioral Health. This will be done in partnership with the operational director of psychiatry. The Clinical Director meets regularly with program staff to address clinical issues and be available to assist the VP of Behavioral Health in developing relationships with community agencies.
JOB FUNCTION:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Sees patients at least one CHN site and performs psychiatric evaluations on all patients seen
- Screens, assesses, and evaluates walk-in patients in crisis situations and addresses other urgent clinical needs
- Performs emergency psychiatric evaluation and provides the appropriate intervention, which may include medication therapies or immediate referrals to an in-patient facility
- Prescribes for Medicaid-pending providers
- Performs chart reviews for collaborative agreement
- Reviews and interprets medical history data and continually updates this information, as necessary
- Provides regular peer review of all behavioral health providers
- Provides clinical consultation to all providers
- Provides lectures for the fellowship program as needed
- Plans clinical educational opportunities/trainings for psychiatric/non-psychiatric staff
- Meets regularly with referral hospitals to ensure continuity of care
- Serves as liaison to the care management programs
- Periodically reviews the medical policies pertaining to behavioral health and updates through memoranda to the Chief Medical Officer
- Evaluates each patient, prescribes appropriate medication treatment and/or refers as indicated.
- Reviews all problem cases to determine course, management of treatment, referral for consultation
- Co-leads psychiatry provider meetings with the Director of Psychiatry
- Meets with clinical staff periodically to evaluate the efficiency and quality of patient services
- Ensures compliance with: Performance evaluations, Employee Health Service & Agency and clinic/department orientation of new employees
- Consults with the Chief Medical Officer regularly
- Participates in monthly staff physician conferences chaired by the Chief Medical Officer to discuss subjects of interests to staff physicians
- Supervises psychiatric consultants to evaluate the efficiency and quality of patient care
- Facilitates related services for health center patients and CHN staff as appropriate, with respect to their confidentiality and privacy
- Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor
WHAT WE LOOK FOR:
- Current New York City license to practice Medicine and Psychiatry
- Medical degree from an approved Medical School
- Completion of residency training from an approved residency program
- Minimum of five (5) years post-training clinical experience
- Medical leadership experience preferred
