Salary Range: $45,000 - $50,000

Position Summary:

The Assistant Scientist in the Lewis Katz School of Medicine, Center for Neurovirology and Gene Editing, will conduct research related to the use of CRISPR/Cas9- mediated gene editing platform to directly target and eradicate HIV-1 from infected cells.

Job Details:

* This is a grant funded position

Required Education and Experience:

* Bachelor's degree in Cell Biology, Genetics, or Biological Engineering and at least one year of experience in the field of neurovirology. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Required Skills and Abilities:

* Demonstrated ability to work independently.

* Demonstrated ability to perform all of the above research techniques.

* Excellent technical and analytical skills.

* Ability to work in a team environment with strong written and oral communication skills.

* Experience with molecular biology and vector construction, gene editing.

* Experience with human cells or tissues which infected with human virus including HIV.

* Ability to operate all standard laboratory and office equipment.

* Ability to prepare the figures of the manuscript and write detailed scientific reports

* Experience with MS Office and data analysis software.

* Must be highly collaborative, self-motivated, results focused, team-oriented, with excellent attention to detail.

Essential Duties:

* Performing biological/molecular research using techniques such as cell transfection, genomic DNA and RNA isolation, RT-PCR, WB (western blot), viability assays, cell culture maintenance, animal model establishment, immunohistochemistry, RNA/DNA scope, protein analysis using biochemical techniques.

* Cell cloning and DNA sequences analysis to detect the presence of mutations (insertions/deletions), including working with animal serum and tissues.

* Assisting with formal presentations on findings, assisting in preparation of grant submissions, performing literary research for manuscript publications, maintaining laboratory equipment, and ordering laboratory supplies.

* Performs other duties as assigned.
