Job Details

Would you like to work for an award-winning Planning Service? Fife Council Planning Service is pleased to be able to offer two temporary opportunities for up to 2 years working as a Planning Assistant within Development Management. Our systems and technology have been developed making it easy for our staff to work from any location. That means that whilst we are based in Glenrothes, the post is offered on the basis of a blended working arrangement, which can include a significant element of working from home.

  • One post will focus on processing planning applications for a varied range of minor/local level development types.
  • The second post will be dedicated to establishing and administering financial guarantees and bonds associated with planning consents. This includes setting up mechanisms to secure restoration and establishing monitoring arrangements to ensure bonds and guarantees provide sufficient restoration funds over the lifetime of developments.

As part of your application, you must provide a Supporting Statement outlining how your skills and experience make you a strong candidate for the role. Please also indicate your preferred post (planning applications or financial guarantees/monitoring) and explain the

reason for your preference. Without a Supporting Statement, your application will not be progressed.

Personal development is supported through our extensive CPD programme and our network of professional mentors.  It is essential that the successful candidate is educated to SCQF Level 9, which includes a Degree or equivalent or a Diploma or equivalent in Town and Country Planning. A Licentiate Membership of The Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) is essential, and you would also be supported in your completion of your submission to demonstrate professional competencies in support of your application for Chartered Membership of the RTPI.

A link to the role profile is included at the bottom of the advert. You will find out more about the job and the type of person we are looking for.

The Person

We are looking for enthusiastic and self-motivated individuals with a positive attitude to customer care; applicants must be able to demonstrate a level of competence and knowledge of planning legislation and experience commensurate with the post/grade applied for.

As a Planning Authority, we have been able to continue to deliver a full planning service virtually to the people and businesses of Fife during the current pandemic thanks to our early adoption, and continued development, of e-planning. The planning service is keen to promote and encourage continued and further opportunities for home working and has adopted a hybrid form of working with 2 days a week expected to be office based.

Applicants must meet the specified criteria on the post applied for and must demonstrate this within their application.
