The Indiana Health Information Exchange (IHIE) is one of the nation’s largest health information exchange organizations. IHIE has been around for over a decade, with its roots dating back 30 years. As a not-for-profit HIE, we enable hospitals, physicians, laboratories, payers, and other health service providers to avoid redundancy and deliver faster, more efficient, higher quality healthcare to patients in Indiana. Today, by making information available to approximately 50,000 healthcare providers in Indiana and neighboring states, we deliver services that make a real difference in health and healthcare.

We are seeking a seasoned professional with a strong background in analytics, engineering, and a passion for turning data analyses into actionable insights and recommendations to join the IHIE team.

Summary:  The Analytics Data Engineer III plays a key role in executing the data roadmap and supporting data driven initiatives.  This individual will be a subject matter expert for data availability, data standards, and data quality. The Analytics Data Engineer III will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Solution Engineering, Product, and Business stakeholders, to advise how data supports the needs of our organization.

This is a hybrid position based in Indianapolis, Indiana, with a blend of in-office and remote work.

Job Function Risk Level 3: Privileged user access with intentional access to PHI and sensitive data

Essential Functions:

Essential functions include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.
  1. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and recommend data solutions that address key challenges and opportunities.
  2. Develop data quality pipelines with validation rules and reporting.
  3. Utilize advanced analytics techniques and tools to analyze large datasets, identify trends, patterns, and correlations, and derive actionable insights.
  4. Identify data quality issues and collaborate with cross-functional teams to remediate.
  5. Develop interactive dashboards, visualizations, and reports to communicate findings and insights effectively to stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  6. Directly engage or oversee data projects with customers or partners, including, but not limited to, data onboarding, data exports, reports, dashboards, and visualizations.
  7. Provide data expertise and guidance, as needed, for new business development opportunities.

Requirements:

Education:          
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in computer science, engineering, analytics, or a related field
Skills and Experience:
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in analytics engineering and data quality functions
  • Strong proficiency in writing advanced SQL statements and PL/SQL.
  • Demonstrated experience with visualization tools (Tableau or similar) and reporting tools
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills, with a keen attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality results
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts and insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and adaptable, with a passion for learning and staying abreast of the latest developments in data analytics and technology
  • Prior experience working with healthcare data
  • Familiarity with HL7, C-CDA, FHIR, USCDI, and other healthcare formats and standards.
  • Familiarity with clinical terminologies and ontologies like LOINC, ICD-10-CM/PCS, SNOMED-CT, RxNorm, etc.
 Preferred: 
  • Ability to read and understand as variety of programming languages (Java, JavaScript, Python, etc.)
