Job Position Description:

Are you a compassionate and resourceful individual dedicated to helping families thrive? We're seeking a Behavioral Specialist for our Head Start Program. You'll use your expertise to support classrooms facing challenging behaviors-collecting data, developing and implementing behavior support plans, and fostering a positive, inclusive learning environment. Working closely with teachers, parents, and community partners, you'll champion trauma-informed practices, promote social-emotional growth, and ensure every child has access to the resources and support they need to thrive. The salary rate for this position is set at $1,280 per week.

Abbreviated Duties List:

  • Utilize Teaching Pyramid Observation Tool (TPOT) to recognize and promote high quality classroom management standards and research-based methods of supporting children with challenging behaviors.
  • Crosswalk TPOT with Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) for best practices in classroom management & positive climate.
  • Provide support, training and technical assistance to parents and staff to ensure all children with disabilities are identified and receive appropriate services.
  • Collaborate with child and family teams including parent(s)/caregiver(s) to design and implement behavioral interventions for children and analyze to determine effectiveness.
  • Ensure all children with suspected disabilities and/or mental health needs are evaluated according to Head Start Performance Standards and receive appropriate referrals to community agencies when needed.
  • Assist in the development, review and maintenance of Head Start Policies & Procedures and forms related to Disabilities & Mental Health component.

Abbreviated Requirements:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in a developmental, mental health, Psychology, Education, Social Work or related discipline.
  • Minimum of three years of experience working with children ages 0-5 and addressing needs associated with challenging behaviors with children.
  • Understanding of behavioral characteristics associated with autism, intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities, brain injuries and other related areas.
  • Must be able to handle emotionally charged situations.
  • Must know and understand state and federal laws and regulations associated with special education.
  • Must be able to successfully pass applicable background and Oregon Central Background Registry checks prior to new hire processing and beginning actual employment.
  • Completion of appropriate Fit for Duty and TB Testing according to Head Start regulations prior to date of hire.

What Will Make You Stand Out:

  • Master's degree in behavior analysis, special education, psychology, social work, speech and language pathology or related field.
  • Prior experience working in a Head Start/Early Head Start program.
  • Education, training and/or experience in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish, verbal and written.
