Position Duties
Reviews residential and commercial building plans to verify their compliance with the adopted County building codes and ordinances, ensuring that all construction projects meet safety standards, legal requirements, and zoning regulations before approval. Identifies inadequacies found in construction documents and specifications and requires that corrections be made to meet the requirements of the applicable codes and engineering standards. Responds to inquiries from plan reviewers, inspectors, architects, engineers, homeowners, and other stakeholders regarding applicable codes, ensuring compliance with safety standards, regulations, and construction requirements. Independently travels to residential and commercial sites to ensure compliance with approved plans. - Attends meetings with architects, engineers, and inspectors relating to code interpretations and code conformance.
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality customer service.
- Performs additional tasks as assigned, including filling in for other staff as necessary and/or required.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION:
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalency required
- Associate's Degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering (Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Electrical), Building Science, or Technology preferred
- Technical or Vocational School in Drafting, construction technology, or building inspection preferred
NOTE: For preferred qualifications, the substitution of any combination of relevant and related education, training, and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and ability may be considered, including by way of example, specific experience or skill-based qualifications that may substitute for certain educational requirements, or a combination of relevant education and experience including supervisory experience.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of five (5) years or more progressively responsible experience in building plan examining, design, or closely related field required
CERTIFICATES:
- Residential Plans Examiner Certificate from ICC - International Code Council, current or obtain within 90 days of hire required
- Commercial Plans Examiner Certificate from ICC - International Code Council, current or obtain within 6 months of hire required
- Combination Examiner Certificate from ICC - International Code Council, current or obtain within 9 months of hire required
LICENSE:
- Valid Colorado Driver's License upon the date of hire required
