About the Department
Continuing Education Instructors are expected to demonstrate and maintain competence in each of the following areas throughout their employment at the College: mastery of subject, teaching performance, and evaluation of student learning. The Nurse Aide I, Instructor is responsible for providing thorough and meaningful instruction based on the current North Carolina NA 1 Curriculum.
Position Duties

- Always provide quality instruction to nurse aide students, teaching classes for the entire class period and properly covering the North Carolina NA 1 curriculum course materials and competencies as specified in the course outline(s)
- Contribute to the development and implementation of competency-based education and utilize available educational resources for the improvement of instruction and the creation of teaching materials
- Maintain accurate student and course records as required by NC DHSR for Nurse Aide training in NC, NC Community Colleges and Mitchell Community college
- Communicate with the clinical facility staff regarding student experiences in the facility
- Provide input to the Program Coordinator or Director regarding student outcomes
- Always enforce academic policy and procedure; counsel students who have academic, attendance, behavior or communication difficulties and complete the required documentation
- Report to the Program Coordinator or Director about any issues, concerns or problems as it relates to the curriculum, instruction or student conduct/behavior
- Participate in nurse aide faculty meetings and other college activities
- Take advantage of in-service training and other opportunities for continued professional development, including attendance at off-campus activities, as feasible, and generally staying abreast of developments in the field of instruction
- At all times, represent the College in a positive and professional manner
- Perform necessary skill demonstrations, laboratory exercises, and clinical instruction and supervision
- Assist the Nurse Aide Program Coordinator and Director with Nurse Aide Program site equipment maintenance, organization of and documentation and implementation of the Nurse Aide program
- Stay abreast of new developments and changes in various academic fields; participate in staff development programs, workshops, seminars and other continuing education programs as appropriate
- Assess the relevancy and impact of various lessons, revise and improve lesson format; evaluate various textbooks and select books to be used for future classes
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Requirements Education & Experience:
Per the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Health Service Regulation Health Care Personnel Education and Credentialing Section, the minimum competency and qualifications for faculty for a Nurse Aide Level I Program shall include:
Education/Skills
Required: Current, unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina.
Experience
Required: Two (2) years of experience as a Registered Nurse in the United States. The successful applicant must meet at least one of the following: Completion of a course in teaching adults, experience in teaching adults, and/or experience in supervising nurse aides.
Preferred Requirements:
Preferred: Long-term patient care experience.
