Summary:
Manages a commercial underwriting unit, which reviews applications for insurance to evaluate degree of risk and accepts applications according to company guidelines.
Duties:
- Supervises and coordinates the day-to-day activities of the Commercial Underwriting Dept.
- Oversees the growth and profitability of the department
- Selects, develops and appraises staff
- Coordinates underwriter's agency visitation schedules
- Reviews commercial accounts including new and renewal business, endorsement request and administers underwriting guidelines accordingly
- Develop, monitor and modify the premium audit program
- Develop and monitor the Facultative Reinsurance program
- Develop, monitor, and modify workflows reporting results to Director of Commercial Underwriting
- Trains new employees on department functions and provides developmental assistance to employees and the Director
- Answers inquiries and resolves problems presented by policyholders, producers and others
- Ensures completion and accuracy of various projects assinged
- Develops and monitors the unit budget and other unit controls
- Performs other duties as required
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- College degree or equivalent experience required
- Minimum of 5+ years multi line underwriting experience
- Minimum of 2+ years supervisory experience with appraisal responsibilities
