TECHNGS4 - CERTIFIED MRI TECHNOLOGIST - 3320
SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Department Manager, primarily functions implementation of the activities occurring in the MRI department. Required to function closely with the radiology department staff and Radiologists.
The MRI Technologist will serve as a primary member of the Radiology Patient Care Team. He/she will maintain a comprehensive understanding of the program.
The tech will be expected to function closely with the MRI supervisor and radiology staff in cooperation with the radiology manager to achieve the goals set forth by the administration and management of MMC. The individual must have a strong knowledge and formal background in the radiologic sciences. The MRI tech must be AART or equivalent certified.
JOB DUTIES
In the absence of supervisors, demonstrates ability to function with a degree of autonomy as to continue routine patient care.
Maintains current on all diagnostic MRI equipment.
Displays ability to perform all diagnostic procedures within MRI department.
Exhibits strong knowledge of departmental function and operation.
Explains procedure to patient before starting exam.
Prepares and positions patients correctly for specific examinations.
Reads orders and the suspected pathology to make sure the correct tests are performed.
Accurately produces quality MRI images.
Maintains skills in the treatment and care for patients from newborn to geriatrics and understands techniques for different ages.
Maintains equipment in a clean and safe manner.
Consults with MRI Safety Officer regarding patient, facility and staff safety issues.
Is knowledgeable of Radiology’s chain of command and demonstrates consistent adherence to it.
Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned by Radiology Manager and MRI Supervisor.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Professional knowledge of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and practice at a level normally acquired through the completion of an accredited school of MRI Technology.
Must be a registered MRI Technologist or registry eligible and pass the registry within one year of hire.
Cannot be on probation from the ARRT more than once.
Communication skills necessary to effectively provide explanations to the patient and/or significant other and to communicate with other members of the health team.
BLS required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Normal environment with little exposure to noise, dust or temperature changes. A large part of work time is sitting or walking.
Regularly handles light to heavy weight and move or lift patients.
Intermittent exposure to unpleasant physical conditions.
May be exposed to potential hazards such as electrical and radiant energy. May also be exposed to chemical wastes, body wastes, fluids and other possible infectious material.
May be scheduled overtime, weekend and/or holiday hours.
