Job Summary:
To work effectively with professional and administrative personnel on the development, implementation, articulation and evaluation of the curriculum; and to coordinate ongoing staff development programs, teacher coaching and supports, and innovative pilot projects.

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement the School District’s curriculum:

Coordinate curriculum projects through the principals and teacher committees; and conduct grade level and subject area meetings to provide curriculum articulation for the K-12 program.

Supervise the preparation and revision of curriculum guides and materials for the appropriate grade levels.

Develop the proposed annual curriculum budget.
-
Work with principals and teachers to assure that the written curriculum guides reflect actual course content.

Provide research summaries relating to textbook reviews and research findings on instruction in specific content areas.

Work with teacher task forces to prioritize district textbook needs in relation to the target population.

Coordinate teacher training in textbook and/or curriculum material selection.

Implement the Board’s textbook adoption process.

Develop materials for dissemination to parents/community, identifying skills and attitudes the district curriculum endeavors to foster.

Direct curricular interaction with the technology program and review new software.
-
Keep informed of state board curriculum mandates; assists in assessing their impact on district programs; and works with Assistant Superintendent Teaching and Learning, principals and teachers to make necessary adjustments

Complete necessary local, state and federal reports.

Manage and conduct the evaluation process for the School District’s curriculum:
-
Administer the curriculum review cycle for targeted subjects each year; including the following:
- Evaluation process
- Parent-student surveys
- Textbook inventories
- Planned courses of study
- K-12 articulation, scope and sequence
- Alignment to tools of assessment
- Program quality control
- Organize teacher task forces to identify the match between the written curriculum, standardized and district tests, and implement adjustments where necessary.

Coordinate review of current textbooks for relationship to curriculum and instructional goals.

Coordinate standardized testing and work with staff to utilize test results in program evaluation and planning.

Conduct opinion surveys of parents and students to provide supplementary data to identify program priorities.

Prepare reports based on the data collected and analyzed during the district’s curriculum evaluation process, and make recommendations for changes.

Identify appropriate criteria for use in curricular self-studies.

District liaison with textbook companies and professional development providers.

Serve as a proactive resource provider for Teachers, Principals and Administrators
-
Research curriculum and instruction related questions referred by principals, administrators and staff.
-
Provide resource materials to principals and teachers in a systematic manner.

Design and conduct staff development programs in accordance with District/School goals:
-
Serve as co-chair for district’s Act 48 Continuing Education Planning Committee.
-
Assist in planning and conducting professional development programs (i.e., Act 178 or Act 48, induction plan, District-wide and subject area in-service needs and professional orientation and mentoring).

Conduct needs assessments for staff development for teachers and administrators.
-
Locate resources to support staff development activities.
-
Design and implement new teacher Induction and staff development.
-
Conduct follow-up activities and evaluations of staff development.
-
Assist in teacher interviews, application screening, staffing, assignments, supervision and evaluation.

Prepare state-mandated, long-range plans in concert with District priorities and action plans:
-
Direct needs assessments related to long-range planning including:
- goal setting and priorities
- assessing strengths and weaknesses of programs and services
- collecting, analyzing and summarizing data on student performance and on staff and community perceptions of goal importance and level of attainment.
- Work with the superintendent, staff and community in the specification of needs in particular programs and services and district management goal areas.

Supervise the preparation of action plans to maintain strengths and to address challenges.

Encourage participation and document community and staff participation in professional development.
-
Assist principals in monitoring implementation and adjusting the plan.
-
Prepare mid-point progress reports and final evaluation summaries.
-
Coordination and evaluation of New Teacher Coaches.
-
Coordination of School Based Instructional Specialists.
-
Direct and monitor the ESOL department, including but not limited to ACCESS assessment coordination, student caseload distribution guidance, curricular materials selection process coordination, professional development organizer, and data collection monitor.

Provide oversight of home school students including reviewing affidavits, textbook/materials distribution, correspondence, and reviewing evaluations.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent

- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with District staff and administrators, students, parentsor guardians, outside agencies, and the public, in a multi-ethnic, multicultural, multilingual environment

Education & Experience:
- Doctoral degree in education with five (5) years of experience serving as a building administrator is required.
- Experience teaching in the development, implementation and supervision of curriculum, preferred.

Required: Pennsylvania certified in at least one of these certification areas:
- Elementary Principal (K –6)
- Secondary Principal (7 – 12)
- Principal (K –12)
- Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction
- Assistant Superintendent
- Letter of Eligibility for Superintendent
- Experience with planning, leading and coordinating professional development and experience with program management.

Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries and complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups and board of directors.

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts and apply mathematical operations to tasks.

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism and deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

Proficiency in the use of personal computer technology and the ability to operate a variety of office equipment including a telephone, copy machine, fax machine, calculator.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all administrators and the management team, the Board of School Directors, parents, students, professional staff and the community.

Effective organizational and supervisory skills.

Terms of Employment:
- 12 months, 261 days.
- Salary and benefits in accordance to the Act 93 agreement with the Board of School Directors.
