Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Laboratory Assistant Histology IV to join our team!
JOB SUMMARY: Obtain valid histology orders, process orders, and data entry. Process incoming reference lab samples ensuring proper patient identification and labeling. Follow applicable hospital policies and procedures for transporting/delivering of samples to laboratory. Provide excellent customer service on the phone and in person to all patients, providers, nurses and other medical staff. Work well under pressure.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Be proficient and timely in registration and accessioning of tissue samples, ensuring proper labeling of samples.
2. Ensure interface orders are entered appropriately. If orders are missing, ability notify the appropriate party.
3. Provide excellent customer service on the phone and in person to anyone that enters the laboratory. Answer phone calls regarding specimen processing; direct to appropriate party when necessary.
a. Answers incoming calls to the laboratory in a professional and timely manner.
b. Must maintain patient confidentiality.
4. Performs routine Histology test procedures as outlined in the Histology standard operating procedure manuals and reports test results. Adheres to quality assurance and quality control procedures in performing all testing.
5. Correlates clinical information and/or previous pathology results and reports discrepancies to the Department Lead or Laboratory Supervisor. Consults with the Department Lead or Laboratory Supervisor when no preset criterion for decision making is available before taking action.
6. Maintains and operates Histology lab equipment; able to detect malfunctions as they occur by review of instruments results. Troubleshoots the problem with technologist or service representative assistance
7. Ensures appropriate histology lab supplies are always on hand in their assigned area or department.
8. Trains or instructs Histology laboratory personnel in performance of lab tests and procedures where assigned.
9. Participates in established Quality Management activities, QC testing of Histology lab reagents and maintenance of equipment. Follows protocol for running and documenting control values. Collects, evaluates, and reports quality management data in order to monitor and improve histology laboratory performance
10. Attends and participates in continuing education programs to monitor proficiency, expand current knowledge and enhance professional excellence. Willingly shares knowledge and provides clinical orientation to other members of the lab team.
11. Trains students from affiliated programs or new employees as assigned.
12. Works closely with all laboratory personnel to ensure timely client service and accurate test results.
13. Participates in Job Competency/Skills Check program.
14. Maintains open communication with supervisors, pathologists, and fellow employees to ensure optimal operation of department. Communicates pertinent information to other members of the health care team in a clinically relevant time frame to enhance
the lab’s contribution to patient care.
15. Maintains strict confidentiality in all situations and with all documentation
16. Adheres to safety, confidentiality, compliance and legal requirements
17. Maintains consistent and reliable attendance and complies with company guidelines on attendance
18. Performs other duties and tasks that promote smooth operations

Qualifications
Education/Certification: High School Diploma or higher. Hold a current BLS Certification. Hold a valid driver’s license.
Experience: 2-5 years of laboratory experience required.
Equipment/Technology: : Experience with computers and office equipment, required.
Language/Communication: The ability to read and communicate (oral and written) effectively in English. Bilingual is a plus. Must be able to understand medical terminology.
Mental Capabilities: Can frequently and consistently make sound judgments. Must be organized, multi-tasker, and a critical thinker.
