Description
Reporting to the EHS Director, the Aerosol Can Recycler will be located at the company’s manufacturing location in Plymouth Meeting, PA (Greater Philadelphia area) . This role involves safely handling, sorting, and processing used aerosol cans to ensure they are properly recycled or disposed of in compliance with environmental regulations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the proper dismantling, puncturing, and recycling of aerosol cans, while maintaining a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency in line with industry best practices.
Aerosol Can Recycler Key Responsibilities:
- Collection and Sorting:
- Receive, sort, and organize used aerosol cans for recycling.
- Inspect cans for any hazardous content, leaks, or damage prior to processing.
- Processing Aerosol Cans:
- Safely puncture, depressurize, and empty aerosol cans using specialized equipment.
- Separate materials (such as plastic, metal, and chemical contents) for proper recycling or disposal.
- Compliance & Safety:
- Follow all safety protocols and regulations for handling aerosol cans, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Ensure proper documentation for the disposal of hazardous waste and compliance with local, state, and federal environmental laws.
- Monitor air quality and ventilation systems in the recycling area to minimize exposure to fumes or contaminants.
- Quality Control:
- Perform routine checks to ensure the integrity of the recycling process and the quality of the output materials.
- Maintain accurate records of materials processed and any anomalies found during the recycling process.
- Equipment Maintenance:
- Operate and maintain aerosol can puncturing and recycling equipment.
- Regularly inspect machinery for malfunctions and ensure it is properly maintained.
- Reporting & Documentation:
- Prepare daily, weekly, or monthly reports detailing the number of cans processed and the materials recovered.
- Maintain accurate logs for regulatory purposes.
- Team Collaboration:
- Work with other team members to ensure a smooth and efficient recycling process.
- Participate in training programs to stay updated on new regulations and technologies.
Requirements
Aerosol Can Recycler – Skills – Abilities:
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferably with experience in environmental services or recycling).
- Familiarity with environmental and safety regulations related to hazardous materials.
- Ability to safely operate and maintain recycling equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow safety protocols.
- Good physical stamina and the ability to work in a warehouse or industrial setting.
- Strong communication skills for reporting and team collaboration.
Preferred Skills:
- Previous experience in a recycling facility or similar industrial setting.
- Knowledge of the proper disposal methods for hazardous materials.
- Certification in handling hazardous waste (preferred but not required).
Aerosol Can Recycler Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in a chemical manufacturing plant/chemical lab environment.
- Occasionally may be required to reach, squat, bend, and lift up to 25 lbs.
- Must be able to stand and walk for large periods of time
- At times will need to wear hard hat, hearing protection, and eye protection
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots will be required.
