General Responsibility – To provide leadership and management for a team of approximately 9 consisting of the head lifeguard and other subordinate lifeguards. The Waterfront Manager reports to the Sandy Island Director and works to implement the aquatic safety protocols set by the Overnight camps waterfront manager and the YMCA of Greater Boston. The Waterfront manager is responsible for scheduling and overseeing the waterfront staff that ensure our waterfront and aquatics program  is safe and fun for all staff and program participants (campers). This role supports the development of younger seasonal staff. We put PEOPLE FIRST as they work with our organization. You will LISTEN AND SERVE; once someone joins our community you will assist as needed. Effective communicate with leaders and subordinates is a must in a close-quarters camp environment. Through our work together we will INSPIRE HOPE, leaving our people and community stronger. Programmatically this role is a senior seasonal management position.
 

Key Responsibilities

ORGANIZATION
• Create and maintain the Waterfront staff schedules
• Support the creation and maintenance of Action Plans and Procedures for the waterfront in accordance with those set by the overnight camps waterfronts manager.
• Develop meaningful relationships in service and on behalf of camp.
• Bi-weekly one-on-one with direct supervisor
• Participation in weekly senior staff meetings

CULTURE
• Put people first- New and Returning Community Care (Campers, Parents, Families, Alumni, Donors, Staff, Volunteers)
• Help provide an atmosphere for developing good morale and well-being among the camp community
• Attention to detail in crafting an excellent experience in all we do

SAFETY
• Be capable of taking shifts in all waterfront roles: Waterfront Guard, Beach Guard, Boat Person, etc.
• Support Incident Report management.
• Support Safety Systems implementation, evaluation, and documentation.
• Stewardship for the future.
• Maintain and enforce community boundaries 

These are not the only duties to be performed.  Some duties may be reassigned, and other duties may be assigned as required


Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

• Certified Lifeguard
• Full-Time Availability for the Camping Season Beginning 2 Saturdays before July 4 and ending Labor Day
• Must Be 20 Years Old
• 3 years (seasons) experience as a Lifeguard 
• Desire and ability to work with younger staff in a camp setting, many of whom are having their first work experience and first away-from-home experience
• Strong attention to detail and follow through
• Passion for people, a willingness to serve
• Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control, desire to develop supervisory and counseling skills and to mentor others in the same.
• Sailing, Swimming Instruction, Water Sports proficiencies are all plusses
