Description

Belmont Charter Network is a family of 5 community schools centered on the central mission to promote the academic, social and emotional well-being of each child. Position Summary: The Custodial Manager plays a crucial role in maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic environment for students, staff, and visitors within the school network. Responsibilities encompass managing custodial staff, overseeing cleaning operations, and ensuring compliance with safety and sanitation standards.  This is a 12-month position that is supervised by the Director of Centralized Operations. 

Core Responsibilities: 

  • Supervision and Team Management:
    • Lead, train, and schedule custodial staff across multiple schools within the network; set performance standards and monitor staff to ensure efficient and high-quality cleaning services.
    • Collaborates with school-based Operations Leaders to co-manage school day porters, jointly overseeing scheduling, task prioritization, and performance expectations
    • Provides on site leadership and supervision of PM porters overseeing scheduling, task prioritization, and performance expectations
    • Organizes team meetings and ongoing training sessions to support custodial staff growth, teamwork, and high-quality service
    • Complete performance evaluations for custodial staff
  • Cleaning Supervision
    • Develop and implement cleaning schedules and protocols tailored to each school's needs.
    • Ensure the proper cleaning and maintenance of classrooms, restrooms, common areas, and outdoor spaces.
    • Monitor the supply inventory and reorder cleaning materials as needed.

 

  • Quality Assurance
    • Conduct regular inspections and quality checks to ensure the cleanliness and sanitation of all facilities 
    • Address issues and concerns promptly, resolving any problems related to cleaning services.
    • Ensure that all schedules are followed properly and updated as needed. 
    • Develops and oversees a custodial accountability system to monitor task completion, promote consistency, and support performance improvement.
  • Communication and Reporting
    • Collaborate with school leaders and staff to address cleaning-related concerns and requests
    • Maintain records, prepare reports, and communicate the status of cleaning operations to relevant stakeholders
  • Health and Safety Compliance
    • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including proper handling and storage of cleaning chemicals
    • Train custodial staff on safety procedures and provide necessary personal protective equipment (PPE). 

 

Additional responsibilities:

 

  • Support Director of Centralized Operations with all facility needs
  • Coordinate schedules for deep cleaning of all buildings during school year breaks and summer
  • Foster vendor relations
  • Special projects as required
  • Work cooperatively with maintenance and other departments in responding to schools’ requests for facilities-related needs.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications


 

Education and Experience: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor's degree in facilities management or related field preferred).
  • Hold all required clearances to work in PA schools (Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 151), Federal Bureau of Investigation Record Check Clearance (Act 114), Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure Clearance (Act 168))
  • Proven experience in custodial management, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Knowledge of cleaning and sanitation practices, as well as health and safety regulations.
  • Strong history of training employees on cleaning policies and procedures

 

Skills and Abilities: 

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability and desire to work effectively with diverse individuals in a wide range of positions, both internal and external to the organization.
  • Ability to manage and effectively prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously and work effectively under pressure.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing
  • Demonstrated ability to meet challenging timelines and quality standards
