POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

                                 Technology Media Assistant                                  

 

Grandy Primary/Camden Intermediate Schools

 

***This position requires the employee to obtain and maintain a yellow bus driver’s license***

 

 

Reports to: Media Coordinator/Principals

 

Purpose: To provide support to teachers in the instruction of students in technology and computer applications.

 

The essential functions and duties of all non-certified employees who are school-based and work thirty or more hours per week with an effective date of hire of June 12, 2002 and beyond must hold a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsement or be willing and eligible to obtain a CDL driver's license with P/S endorsements within six months of employment. If a candidate does not pursue a CDL driver’s license with P/S endorsements within the six months or is ineligible to obtain a CDL driver’s license with P/S endorsements for any reason, this could result in recommendation for dismissal.

 

Responsibilities:

A. Academic Assistance

Gives group instruction in computer applications.

Provides individualized instruction.

Monitors work assigned by teacher.

Checks and corrects students’ work on the computer while in progress.

Keeps students on task.

Praises and reinforces achievement of students.

Reports student progress to teacher.

 

B. Instructional Preparation/Support

Enters student names and information in database for instructional programs.

Arranges technology lab furnishings and equipment.

Provide software support for the media coordinator and students.

Prepares visual aids for computer instruction.

Duplicates materials.

Reorganizes materials at the end of day.

May attend workshops.

Distributes and collects instructional materials.

 

C. Report And Records

Checks and reports attendance.

Enters data in various records.

Records student behavior.

Files data according to regulatory requirements.

 

D. Monitoring Student Behavior

Supervises students in the classroom and other locations.

Creates and distributes awards for positive behavior.

Promotes student self-esteem.

Teaches citizenship, social skills, and respect for others.

Reconciles minor student conflicts.

Disciplines misbehavior through approved methods.

Reports discipline problems to teacher or principal.

Reports to supervisor significant change or lack of change in student behavior.

 

E. Required to obtain and maintain a yellow bus driver’s license (employed after June 12, 2002).

 

F. Other duties as assigned by the teacher or administration.

 

Knowledge and Abilities:

  1. Working knowledge of effective methods of dealing with children.
  2. Working knowledge of information technology devices.
  3. Some knowledge of the school organization and its community.
  4. Some knowledge of the expected behavior of children, that is, basic characteristics of ages and stages.
  5. Skill necessary to operate audiovisual equipment and common office machines.
  6. Skill to make learning aids which will strengthen lesson plans.
  7. General knowledge of software utilized in the computer lab.
  8. Ability to discern significant student behavior and refer this to the teacher.
  9. Ability to impart information to the child’s level of comprehension.
  10. Ability to apply impartially and consistently proper methods of recognition, reward and punishment.
  11. Ability to solve independently most minor problems.
  12. Ability to follow minimally detailed written and oral instructions without constant supervision.
  13. Ability to record and store data accurately.
  14. Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information.

Training and Experience:

  • 48 Semester hour credits from an accredited college/universtiy (must have copy of official transcript)

OR

  • 6 semester hours and passing WorkKeys assessment scores in Workplace Documents, Business Writing, and Applied Mathematics. Passing scores are a 4 in reading and math and a 3 in writing.

AND

  • Possession of an equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities for the operation of computers and interactive systems.

Term of Employment: 10 Months

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Salary Grade: NC04 ($2600 - $4294, depending on experience  and training)
