POSITION SUMMARY:

Supervises a four (4)-person team providing landscaping services across the District. Provides field supervision, management, and training to Mechanic II. This position reports to the Landscape Services Supervisor.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides in field supervision, guidance, directions, and training of Mechanic II. Assists with project management, while training on assigned duties and job tasks. Maintains lawns, trees and shrubs, edge and weed curbs, bus lanes, parking lots and sport fields; aerates, fertilizes and re-seeds lawns. Reports progress to employee and department supervisor. Provides direct assistance to contractors assigned to school/job sites with operational tasks as needed.

 

Provides landscape design, including but not limited to planting flowers, laying mulch, laying pine straw, and planting trees.

 

Operates push mower, riding lawn mower, tractor with attachments, weed trimmer, edger, clippers, pole saw, chain saw pole cutter, pressure washer, jack hammer, and other equipment relevant to repair and maintenance. Makes minor equipment repairs.

 

Assists with District emergency and/or general assignments as operationally necessary.

 

All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.

 

KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:

High School diploma or GED required.

 

Minimum of two (2) years of commercial grounds maintenance/landscaping experience required.

 

Makes repair decisions which affect the schools/buildings within the District.

 

Valid driver’s license required.  CDL preferred. Trade specific certificate preferred.

 

Makes decisions and recommendations under the guidance of Landscape Services Supervisor. Moderate independent judgement required.

 

Requires regular, frequent contact with internal and external personnel of influence and decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of importance; may require occasional contact with outside agencies and the District.

 

Provides in the field supervision, training, guidance, and safety management to Mechanic II positions.

 

Applies, recommends, and implements technology concepts to improve the effectiveness of the department. Familiarity and knowledge of computer applications (i.e., Word, Excel, Google Suite).

 

Variable work environment – Facilities Services Complex, school grounds, and all buildings; subjected to a wide range of weather conditions and temperatures.

 

Provides periodic on-call support after normal work hours (twenty-four [24] hours a day, seven [7] days a week) to alleviate emergency situations.

 

Must be able to lift fifty (50) pounds frequently and one-hundred (100) pounds occasionally. 

 

Walking, standing, kneeling, driving for eight (8) hours per day; must be able to climb a thirty (30) foot ladder and negotiate stairs. 

 

Before being extended an offer of employment, selected candidates will be notified by the district to undergo the required physical examination for this position. 

 

 

NOTE: This is a grade 21, 225-day position that pays for experience up to a step 8.
