University of Iowa Healthcare, Department of Urology seeks to hire a Research Support Manager to support research by exploring funding opportunities, assisting in grant proposal preparation, submission, post-award administration and operational support by assuring compliance with UI policies, state and federal laws. May assist in the creation of strategic research programs and competitive proposals. This position will work with central University of Iowa offices and or regulatory committees to facilitate research applications and obtain approvals consistent with University of Iowa, state, and federal regulations.

 

  • Respond to faculty inquiries regarding specific grant opportunities; make recommendation s regarding economic feasibility; establish timelines to              assure project deadline dates are met; monitor progress of proposal development.  Develop budgets; comply with internal and sponsor deadlines;            obtain institutional approvals; route proposals; authorize and train users on electronic submissions systems.

  • Prepare and manage informational data for research/grant proposals.  Assist with the financial analysis of research grants/contracts and                           administrative support required for the development and management of the department.

  • Assist in performing routine financial analyses and projections for annual budget requests, including assisting Principal and Research invaginators in       preparing budget proposals, revising budgets, providing feedback on financial status of on-going awards, advising when re-budgeting is necessary           and when preparation for year-end closings are necessary. 

  • Exercise control over accounts for the department. Manage large and complex budgets; provide analysis, forecasting and preparation of financial           reporting; and review transactions to assure compliance with University policies and procedures.

  • Extract financial and non-financial data from various accounting and information systems and assemble the data for analytic purposes.  Manage              informational data for research/grant proposals and coordinate the assembly and submission of research/grant proposals.  Establish reports to               monitor funding of the department.

  • Perform routine accounting, statistical, cost and financial analysis; assemble and present resulting recommendations in written, tabular and graphic          form both on a regular basis and upon special request, regarding the research programs and activities associated with the department.

  • Control account balances and reconcile differences between various account balances and external sources.

  • Responsible for monitoring revenues and expenditures and preparing summaries, annual reports and projections related to contract/grant                        operations.

  • Develop and implement strategic planning to meet grant related goals of the department.

  • Provide necessary training and support based on new and/or changing guidelines. Assemble, edit and distribute program-related educational and           promotional materials.

  • Assist granting agencies in periodic, intermittent and terminal reviews.

  • Participate in contract/grant negotiation through analysis of fiscal and contracted content prior to University acceptance and in coordination with UI            Division of Sponsored Programs.  Evaluate subcontract Request for Proposals and subsequently support the negotiation.

  • Communicate with internal constituents to assure compliance, adherence to policies, status tracking, and direct communications with sponsors and          other entities.

  • Ensure compliance with regular reporting requirements related to research, including faculty effort reporting and research space survey reporting.

  • Ensure compliance with contract/grant terms in accordance with University policies and state and federal regulations.

  • Initiate personnel and material requisitions as required to accomplish objectives of contract/grant.

  • Represent the Urology department at regular University wide research administer meetings.

  • Provide functional and/or administrative supervision of research staff. May provide direction, assignments, feedback, coaching and counseling to              assure outcomes are achieved.  May hire, develop, manage the performance of staff; assure staff are compliant with UI policies and procedures.

  •        Maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with faculty staff, students and the public. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum 3 years administrative experience in a research environment.

  • Minimum 3 years experience in government funded accounting or comparable contract administration.

  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Must be proficient in computer software applications

  • Evidence of ability to work independently, effectively and efficiently.

  • Demonstrated experience working effectively in a welcoming and respectful workplace environment. 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of current local, state and federal regulations.

  • Knowledge of University policies, procedures and regulations.

  • Knowledge of UI workflow systems.

  • Knowledge of grants accounting and administration.
