About the Department
Provides event preparation and support services and facility and grounds maintenance services to the Destin Fort Walton Beach Convention Center.
Position Duties
• Transports and positions event related equipment according to detailed room diagrams, equipment listings, and specific instructions contained in event orders. • Secures and connects telecommunications wires, temporary power panels and power cords to utility ports. • Assists A/V Technician with configuration, adjustment, troubleshooting, and operation for all audio/visual/lighting components and cabling to provide presentations or special effects during events using scripts provided by clients. • Reads and interprets event diagrams, facility drawings, and blueprints. • Coordinates traffic flow during vendor load-in and load-out. • Provides computer related technical support to clients, and familiarizes clients with house equipment to be used during events. • Performs pre- and post-event tasks, to include overseeing contract laborers, custodial needs, and set-up/breakdown of equipment. • Reviews event order documents to confirm/update final billing. • Maintains event-related equipment through inspection, cleaning, and performing repairs; recommends upgrades and procurements to ensure products and services meet industry standards and technology progression. • Operates motorized equipment and vehicles, material handling equipment, grounds maintenance equipment and other portable power tools. • Performs minor repairs and routine/preventive maintenance in the areas of electrical, HVAC, plumbing and structural surfaces; adjusts and monitors computer-based HVAC system settings as needed. • Repairs and maintains grounds and irrigation systems by cleaning, planting, fertilizing, sprinkling, mowing, weeding and pruning. • Cross trains and assists with safety, security, and loss prevention measures (i.e. patrolling facility and property, monitoring surveillance systems, controlling public entrance and preventing unauthorized items from coming into the facility, etc.) as business demands and operational needs permit. • Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience: High School diploma or GED supplemented by one (1) year experience in the area of general maintenance including servicing and minor repair of electrical systems, plumbing systems, HVAC systems and structural surfaces; set up, maintenance and minor repair of electronic equipment, audio/visual equipment, sound boards and lighting systems, and custodial tasks; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Certifications and/or Licenses: Requires a valid driver license.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to operate a variety of machines and equipment including trucks, light equipment, and a variety of hand-held and electrical equipment and tools. Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force frequently, or 10 to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Requires the ability to position self for work in confined areas, on scaffolding, ladders and the like, or overhead. Requires bending, stooping and twisting. Must be able to traverse irregular or uneven terrain frequently. Requires the ability to perform manual tasks, and remain on feet for extended periods of time. Exposure to outside atmospheric conditions is required. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work. Language Ability: Requires the ability to communicate effectively in English, including the ability to convey, record and exchange information; requires the ability to explain procedures and to give, receive and follow oral and written instructions. Requires ability to read a variety of moderately complex technical data, policy and procedure manuals, codes, etc. Requires the ability to prepare forms and reports using prescribed formats and adhering to all rules of grammar, spelling, diction and punctuation. Requires the ability to communicate with a broad array of individuals from various professional backgrounds. Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of common sense understanding to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; to make independent judgments in absence of supervision; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation. Numerical Aptitude: Must be able to add and subtract; may require the ability to multiply and divide. Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to tactfully and effectively interact with the public and with co-workers. Must be able to perform under moderate levels of stress imposed by frequent deadlines, peak workloads or public contact.
