Job Summary

The Resource Specialist teacher provides instruction and services for the special education pupils identified and served in the resource specialist program and those in special day classes who are mainstreamed. This includes individual assessment of academic achievement and the provision of resource information and materials to regular staff and parents.

Job Description

Under the immediate direction of the principal, provides an educational program for learning disabled pupils who are average or above intellectually and who exhibit behavioral, and/or neurological, and/or emotional problems or who are severe underachievers academically to such an extent that satisfactory progress cannot be expected in the classroom under guidelines of special education.  Assists in other school programs as assigned.

 

1.  Teaches learning disabled pupils one or more subjects of the curriculum on a level commensurate with emotional, physical, and intellectual needs of the pupil.

2.  Provides individualized and small group instruction, with emphasis on remedial instruction.

3.  Provides individual and small group counseling on educational and personal problems which relates to the pupil's total growth and development.

4.  Confers frequently with parents and professional staff members on each pupil's progress.

5.  Assists other professional staff members in the diagnosis of learning disorders, development of planned remediation, and evaluation of pupil's progress.

6.  Provides appropriate physical and psychological environment to establish and reinforce acceptable pupil behavior, attitudes, and social skills.

7.  Works with the District Admission and Discharge Committee, Student Study Teams and IEP Teams.

8.  Creates an effective learning environment.

9.  Evaluates pupil progress and prepares necessary reports.

10.  Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service education activities provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.

11.  Performs reasonable additional duties as assigned by the Princiapl.

 

 

Requirements / Qualifications

Letter of Intent Current Resume Appropriate Credential to service students with mild/moderate disabilities Autism authorization EL Authorization Copy of Transcripts showing BA degree (and above if applicable) 3 Current Letters of Recommendation.

Salary Info

Salary based on prior experience and semester units above Bachelor's degree The District will give up to 7 years (full-time) teaching credit for placement on the salary schedule. Candidate with 7 years or more experience will start on Step 8
