Position Description
This position requires knowledge and experience of safely being able to operate hand tools, clearing wooded debris, climbing trees, and managing tasks associated with our service capabilities. The climber will be required to work in difficult weather conditions of extreme heat and cold environments. The ideal candidate will have a positive, get it done attitude, with an eagerness to learn.
Responsibilities
These tasks include, but are not limited to:
- Pruning trees
- Rigging
- Cabling and bracing
- Removal of hazardous trees
- Properly maintaining and operating equipment (hand tools, chainsaws, chippers, and aerial lifts)
- Implementing work zone safety procedures
- Assisting with driving, backing, dumping, and parking duties
- Learning, understanding, and adhering to all safety rules and company safety policies
Qualifications
Position Requirements
- Valid driver's license
- Vehicle required for transportation to job sites
- Ability to work outdoors year-round performing manual labor in all weather conditions
- Climb trees for trimming and removals in and above the power lines.
- Prepare, operate, and maintain all tools and equipment including hand tools, chainsaws, chippers, and aerial lifts
- Capable of operating two-handed equipment (chain saw, circular saw, etc.)
- Remove limbs and brush, cleanup and dispose of debris
- Safeguard employees and the public from hazards in and around the working area to help enforce on-the-job safety practices
- One or more years experience working as a Trimmer/Climber, working around utility wires, knot tying, etc.
- Knowledge of trees including identification, growth habits and correct techniques for the trimming, pruning, repairing, maintaining, and removing, as applicable to working close to energized conductors
- Ability to perform physical labor such as lifting a minimum of 50 lbs. to shoulder height or more
- Ability to obtain specialized training and certifications as required, such as Local, state and federal licenses
- Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR cards
- OSHA 10 or Greater Certified
- Must be out of a Laborers Hall (LiUNA)
- Travel is required within the states of CT, MA, and possibly more in the future.
