Job Summary
This Principal Engineer role will lead the enterprise-wide strategy, architecture & design for observability and resiliency. The role will coordinate with teams across all observability domains—including mainframe, cloud, network, and product areas—to design and implement a unified observability and reliability platform. This leader will work closely with senior technology leaders to consolidate fragmented monitoring efforts, reduce tool sprawl, and establish a central data pipeline with real-time event correlation and data integration. The ideal candidate will bring a systems-thinking approach to transform how observability is architected across the enterprise.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and lead the design of an enterprise-wide observability and resiliency platform.
- Coordinate a virtual team across all observability domains to unify monitoring efforts.
- Collaborate with senior leaders to align observability strategy with business goals.
- Design and implement a central data pipeline.
- Enable real-time event correlation and alerting across all major systems.
- Integrate network relationships and CMDB data into a unified observability framework.
- Promote a design mindset and systems-thinking approach across engineering teams.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience
- 12 or more years of relevant experience
Preferred Skills/Experience
- Deep expertise in observability, resiliency engineering, and event correlation technologies.
- Strong understanding of performance, scalability, and enterprise system architecture.
- Experience designing and integrating enterprise-scale data pipelines and observability frameworks, including CMDB integration and real-time event correlation.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
- Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive adoption of observability best practices.
Location Expectations
This role offers a hybrid/flexible schedule, with an expectation of working in-office at least 3 days per week.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $214,795.00 - $252,700.00U.S. Bank will consider qualified applicants with arrest or conviction records for employment.
