Under general direction, designs, develops, and applies testing frameworks, methodologies, and tools to maintain effective test cases and automation scripts; and supports application regression testing, patch validation, and defect verification to ensure quality and stability of software.

The Well Qualified Candidate Will Possess the Following

Knowledge:
  • Software QA methodologies, tools, and processes
  • Software development life cycle
  • Test automation tools and frameworks
  • Query Tools such as Oracle PL/SQL Developer
  • Programming languages and scripting for test automation
  • Defect tracking systems, version control systems, and test management platforms
  • Methods used in database management to organize, access, test, and assess data
  • Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and their testing requirements
  • Public sector or education sector software systems

Required Education and Experience
Education: A bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, information systems, or other fields closely related to the job requirements of this classification, from an institution of higher learning recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. Foreign degrees and credit units require translation and equivalency established by an agency recognized by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

Experience: Four years of experience in software quality assurance, including developing test plans and performing manual and automated testing.

Additional Requirements: A valid California driver's license and the availability of private transportation or the ability to obtain transportation between job sites may be required.

Hybrid remote schedules may be available. To ensure the health and safety of its staff, LACOE may require employees to provide evidence of full vaccination against COVID-19. 

Selection Process
Candidates who meet the minimum requirements above will be invited to participate in an examination that may consist of a Performance Exam and Structured Interview.

Selection and promotion are based on a competitive examination process. Candidates who pass all exam parts are ranked according to overall exam score and placed on an eligibility (hiring) list. Vacant positions are filled from the top three ranks. Eligibility lasts for 12 months; however, additional recruitment may occur under a separate bulletin with additional candidates being merged onto the eligibility list. Some positions that involve public contact may require bilingual proficiency for which selective certification may apply (Education Code 45277.5). In addition, the eligibility list resulting from this examination may be used to fill vacancies in related job classifications for which no eligibility list exists (Education Code 45272).
